I’m the same . I took my Chevelle out yesterday and some rando guy in a new Camaro said I was crazy driving it . It was sunny 68 degrees out and no salt in the road

This is still of concern at some level, but as noted previously, it's basically unenforceable since you would be allowed to operate any equipment you owned before the law was passed - gotta read the whole thing. I have a mower I use and a spare. Both given to me by relatives - no sales receipt but I own them. I don't like the trend or idea, but practically speaking, it's an empty threat.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

Earlier this month, the US Department of Energy (DOE) announced its intention to gather basic information about the energy consumed by bitcoin mining. In making the decision, the DOE noted that the share of bitcoin mining happening in the US has shot up by a factor of over 10 just within the last three years, leaving the activity consuming as much electricity as a fairly populous state.

I suggest we cut some of this fairy tail usage and leave some power for the rest of real life.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

Opinions are like *()^, and for one I'd never buy a Dodge, GM or Ford truck unless I really needed heavy duty, which I never will. With good luck I bought clean 39K 2014 Subaru Outback in Nov. 2019 for 14.8K, and in Feb. 2020 a clean 70K 2013 Rock Warrior Tundra, loaded up for 23.5K. Haven't lost a dime on them thanks to covid, but covid is a rip, stuff costs twice what it did in 2019. How'd that happen? Rhetorical.

I've only put 4K on the Tundra since. Clearcoat has started to come off, I'll have it repainted, I hope to never be in the market another truck, short 67-72 anyway, perhaps.

For some reason, that car brings out the worst in other drivers. I had a guy in a lifted truck push me off the road so that he could race past and merge in front of me on a freeway on-ramp, and then he threw his coffee at me and it splattered all over my hood.
That's exactly why he loves his. And it's roomy enough to be a parts runner, he's carried more transmissions in that Prius than I have in my Ram lol

FWIW

Ford halts shipments of new F-150 Lightning EVs

"Ford Motor said on Friday it had halted shipments of all 2024 model year F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks, so it could perform quality checks for an issue it did not specify.

...Ford told suppliers in December it planned to produce about 1,600 F-150 Lightning EV trucks per week starting in January, roughly half of the 3,200 it previously had planned.
Ford sold 24,165 F-150 Lightning trucks last year in the U.S., up 55% from 2022, out of about 750,000 total F-150 U.S. sales."

Connecticut lawmakers came to their senses and scrapped their plans of adopting California's air quality regulations which would've banned the sale of new gas powered vehicles by 2035.

Slow and steady wind the race. The EV hare got out of the gates fast, but then ran out of steam!

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

We can think what we will, In the end the most efficient or less cost per mile will win the majority.

Their are already class 8 trucks running between Texas and California. They move Tesla batteries. They have high amperage charging stations, along the route, dedicated for the trucks. At first they were going to use the batteries they were haling to provide the power but changed their mind.

Tesla promised to supply electricity for the semi- at 7 cents per mile through their next-gen semi-truck chargers. A typical diesel semi-truck gets about 6.5 miles to the gallon - and diesel fuel costs about $5.20/gallon…so that works out to be 80 cents per mile.

Remember this is a dedicated route. I am not saying trucks will be battery powered for a long time. I am saying with the cost per mile, for fuel, they will get incorporated as the low cost producer wins.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

I don't like picking on my gal's EV, just can't help it..... 65K 2023 VOLVO. This last weekend she couldn't get the ap or car to agree on a charge, conflicting data and wasn't working. While we sat in the car, I mentioned that I knew how to fix it. She asked, and repeated the same as always, replace it with a Toyota Hybrid. Despite constant challenges and inconveniences, she maintains she loves the car.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

Just this morning, CNBC (business news) had a segment on Tesla. 4th quarter 2023 had almost no growth in sales vs. the same quarter in 2022. Analysts say it's due to the industry slowdown in general, as well as Tesla not having an entry-level car. They do have one slated for 2025, but they don't often hit their target dates.

I'm obviously not ready for an EV, but I like Elon Musk a lot, and hope he can keep competing against the big boys who have targeted Tesla. Unlike GM, I doubt he will be converting his EV plants to ICE production!

On another note, Tesla's Energy Storage business is doing well. Here's a partial quote from an article I just read:
"The company’s energy storage business is booming. It includes both Tesla’s Powerwall home batteries and utility-scale Megapacks."

I can't keep up with all the news and all the world problems, sometimes I just don't turn on the radio for weeks and listen to CDs ( I'm sixty). Just heard on the news here in N.J. that a politician in California has a plan to let the Electricity Companys charge even more on top of your electric bill by adding a percentage of whatever your annual salary is. If I heard this correct. how and what!!. So how, for one thing and many other things come to mind, will you now need to give information on your annual salary to the Electric Company
So they can charge you the additional percentage on top of your electricity bill according to your annual salary. Sorry I went off topic. As far as Tusla decrease in car sales, maybe just EV competition. ✌

Seems pretty discriminatory. Charge you more for the same electricity because you make more ?

It’s Marxist wealth redistribution under the euphemism of “equity” and it should be opposed lest that be rolled out elsewhere. But that’s just my opinion

Maybe the California Politburo wants even more hard-working comrades to leave the state.

On the California charging more that's not really surprising. On the tax code the more successful you are the more you are penalized and less more unsuccessful you are the more you get rewarded.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

It’s true. I’m directly involved with this grid overhaul (no choice but to figure out how to comply with the new mandates). I could write a page on it, but in short our power grid will cost 2x to 4x what it costs now. No utility has a plan yet but the one’s starting to plan are indicating MASSIVE cost increases. But there are so many disadvantaged people in the state that they have no choice but to plan for wage based charges. I’ve read several early utility plans that explicitly state this is coming.

Really don’t know how that can be legal. I can see raising the rates across the board and subsidies for the lower income families . I see some lawsuits once it gets past into law .

Pretty freaking incredible. Can’t imagine what the founding fathers must be thinking to themselves watching all this take place.
Never ceases to amaze me how Commiefornia continues to live up to its reputation.

Also, seems unfair that the lions share of those on the higher end of the sliding scale will almost certainly be citizens and legal residents of CA who will be subsidizing electricity for a population of illegal in-state inhabitants that probably number in the millions. Admittedly, I don’t know where on the wage scale the higher costs begin.
