Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

Why would anyone want to move the engine so far forward in the engine compartment just to make these headers (or any other brand of headers)work? Seems like other headers could be used & tweaked where needed vs. having to reconfigure more than just the exhaust.

Am I missing something?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

This is just for the 73-87 guys and I would not want to move the motor further towards the front either, makes no sense. They fit fine on the 67-72's. I'm still trying to find a way to "adjust" the driverside to fit both generations. I think I might have to bribe someone out there to make changes on that side and send it back to me so I can adjust the fixture.

I wasn't directing the question @ anyone, I was just asking out-loud because I've seen the 'adapters' that shift the motor forward in the engine compartment & I wondered why anyone would want to go that route. Seems like the best placement is as far back as the firewall permits (basically, where the old sbc was sitting).

What is the interference issue w/a stock trans dipstick?

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

Jamie,
I talked to you before when you wanted to wait for PCM to test his. I have access to my 73-87 AND I have access to a 67-72, both with LS powerplants. I don't mind cutting them up if I am covered.

I can say that I tried ECE mounts on the 73-87, you DO NOT want to do this, It will force you to move your whole drivetrain forward, causing you to have to move the crossmember and get a longer driveshaft.... Look at this post for a comparison of the ECE over 3" forward, vs the plates. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...8&postcount=38

I also have access to 1" back mounts and I can swap them out and see if I can mod the headers to fit that setup on a 73-87, that way it would cover all mounts. More people will be inclined to move it back than forward in my opinion..

I've seen the 1" 'set-back' mounts. My mind considers "set-back" to mean move closer to the firewall. Does anyone know for sure if this is correct?

Yes that is what they are, 1" closer to the firewall.

Okay, you are 100% covered if you can make these fit both year ranges. I will re-coat and pay shipping both ways. Just take lots of pics so we can file them in our engineering dept. LMK

Your right on the the ece/73-87 senario, way too much to ask anyone to go through. This is the route we would all prefer.

Jamie (951) 739-5900 ext.211.

Call and we can discuss all the details.

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

The 73-87 version is on the way!!!! If all goes well, this header (thy324y-c) will cover from 67-87.

Special thanks to Captkaos (Chris) for taking this on!!!

The primaries are 1.625", 2.00" secondaries and 3.00" at the final collector. A reducer is supplied to take the pipe down to 2 1/2" head pipes if desired.

Ya he did in the beginning but later he felt that this was something that I need to take care of. It turned out to be more complex than we originally thought. You know how it goes.

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

Jamie is looking for a truck with an LS motor that he can fabricate a new set for the 73-87 trucks. The 67-72 set will not work with 73-87 trucks.

This is the Thread (in the 73-87 board) he started looking for a truck to work on.

I did volunteer to test fit, but I have never even held a welder, so I can not make the "corrections". Sorry I am "welding impaired", lol

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

Can you get these headers with a "v" clamp collecter. What are the headers running a guy. I see someone already asked about Canadian shipping. If possible can you give a quote for a set/kit (bolts and gaskets) for a 68 chev with shipping to T4L 0A2 Alberta. I tried emailing off of the website but never heard anything back.
Thanx.

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

I'd take a set as well.

Maybe we could do a Alberta Group buy and combine shipping???

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

Jamie, are these prices still good? I was hoping the stainless F-body Hookers I have had sitting here for a couple years (bought for my '02 Z28 but not yet installed) would work, but they simply will not clear my CPP mounts. The stock LS1 ('99 Z28) manifolds won't clear, either. I'm torn between buying different mounts at ~$235 or headers at more than twice the price. Despite the pics posted here using CPP mounts, I'm concerned about spending all that money and finding out the new headers won't clear, either. Not sure if the pics attached will help answer my concerns but just in case....

Thanks,
Brent

You should have no problems, if you look at the first post in the thread you can see the cpp mounts.

Hi Brent,
Just call Nick at 951-739-5900 and he should be able to take care of you. Be sure you tell him that you are a member of this site and that you have been speaking with me.

Since the headers were designed on a truck with cpp mounts, I don't think you will have any issues.

Thanks, Jamie. I'm gonna assess my financial situation (just went back to work Monday after being let go from my old job on 10/21) and then decide if I can take the plunge.
