Re: 88-98 work trucks
I was thinkin' that the "work truck" style was the clue, not trucks working. Doh....
Anyway, there's a GMC near here that has been customized by "Crunch" with the damage being confined to "the front cap"... It'll need a right fender, hood, grille and headlight, parking light and maybe a core support. It looks like it got a little bit too close to something with a big moving something or other that swiped the upper part of the grille/hood as it swung to the right. I'll try to get a pic....if my brain will let me remember. It is a work truck model, not a working model truck. Still runs, though.

Right after I hit the post button I thought I should have thrown in Larry The Cable Guys prayer for forgiveness....the one about the starving pygmies in Africa.
I'll dodge the folks in the crosswalks and take my half-point.

I don't work for a living out of my truck, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.
Looking back, I have no idea why I took this picture...

Re: 88-98 work trucks
What`s the truck world coming to?No offense, but there`s more interest in a silly wannabee trucker exhaust stack thread than a truck being a truck thread.I know the crowd is all about lowered 2wds and lifted 4wds.These aren`t antiques, yet have some years on them, now.I kinda figured the guys that use them could use a thread to show their drivers makin`hay. That`s cool,I`ll try again some other time.Meanwhile we can talk about running stacks up though perfectly good bed floors so we can cuss those guys (ourselves?) in the future when a decent bed is hard to find.I`ll be cussed for my phone mounting holes and holes in the top rail for mounting racks and work tops.

Re: 88-98 work trucks
Now, now....let's not be judgemental.
Seriously, these trucks were worked extensively when they were new just as the new versions are being worked today. With most companies, there will be a point of diminished returns and they will be written off and sold. That's where Joe the Plumber comes in and buys one to use for his two-wrench plumbing jobs (I'm not dissing plumbers). There's people like me who buy/trade for one because I'm not flush with cash to make monthly payments on those new ones...or even late model examples. Finally, there are the youth of today. High school kids (10th grade and up) were born during the heyday of these trucks (92-94) and their dad may have had one and that may be the first truck they remember. So, the sentimental side gets nudged and the affordability of these trucks becomes an issue. I just feel that less of them are used as work trucks than daily driver trucks. The older style, "Square body" and the 67-72 styles seem to have been used longer in a work environment because they were much more user-friendly than the idea of working on something with a computer. Parts are more accessible (fuel pump, for instance) on the non-TBI trucks from '87 and earlier and some of those of us who are older are more likely to be able to work on a carburetor than a TBI unit. Whether or not this applies to your ideas about these trucks being used as work trucks, or not, is up to your interpretation. This post is just my opinion on your statement. As for the deal with the stacks, we're dealing with a youthful person who didn't fully explain his reasons for several of his replies. Because of that, we took off on a tangent that seemed right to us.

Re: 88-98 work trucks
WOW Mr K, Did someone do something in your corn flakes ?
Did you happen to think that there are more people that do not have jobs or a yard or hobbies requiring a "work" truck ? I found this thread interesting and like looking at "work" trucks as well as lowered or raised, Sorry I never had/don't have a job requiring a "work" truck so I could participate in your thread. But, I will still keep an eye on it to see more "work" trucks as/if they are posted.....

Re: 88-98 work trucks
special-K works his truck and I understand his desire to see if there are others who have used theirs in their jobs. I think it is a testament to these trucks and to their owners and operators who keep 'em rollin'.
I'm basically a tightwad and like to keep mine in shape so it retains its basic value, whether it gets used to earn a living or just get me to/from what I drive....that earns my living. I would like to see more pix, even if they are from someones archive. C'mon, you know you got 'em. Let's see whatchagot.

Re: 88-98 work trucks
Well I have to shamefully admit to having a lowered 2wd (2/4 at the time) '92 C1500 that I used to do roofing work with - but I never took any pics with my trailer hooked up full of 8,000# of torn off shingles... I use my '05 GMC that way too, 20" wheels and all - I'll snap you a pic next time I get a chance!!

Re: 88-98 work trucks
Yeah, that's the thing...Most people don't reach for their camera after they load up a bed full of whatever. I use my truck like a truck fairly often, but I only had the one pic -- and that was only because I had my camera out that day anyway, documenting a fallen tree for insurance purposes.

Re: 88-98 work trucks
Therein lies the answer to this conumdrum....as to why we don't have pix of these trucks being worked.
Heck, I have wished I had taken pix of my previously-owned vehicles....cars and trucks. If you don't take pix of your pride and joy, or you don't take a pic of your truck while you are working....nobody will get to see what you had or did. Such is life.

Re: 88-98 work trucks
lol, there ya go. I don't take many pictures when I'm supposed to be working. I have a few more of my K10 but this is not the right place. I just feel that I'd get my ass-ripped if I was taking pictures of my Silverado pulling something or parked by a tractor than if i was actually being productive.

Re: 88-98 work trucks
Looks like Colin has already worn out the original bed and is going to use up another one. So, what it that....a 6-inch drop? Did you notch the frame or is it setting on top of the axle?
