72 Blazer pricing, general questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi. I'm new to this board....and brand new to selling a car.

I'm trying to come up with a selling price (and hints) for my 72 Blazer.

My father bought this straight off the showroom floor back in 72 up in Mpls., it's orange. It now resides with me on our farm in Central Kentucky.

The white top has only been taken off once and is in good condition, the uphostery is pretty good, radio works, A/C used to work probably needs freon. 4 wheel locks in fine, has the lock-outs.

Problem is it has lots of rust along the bottom. The back tailgate thing has some rust along the top I believe.

What kind of attributes add to the saleability of this vehicle. We've been periodically stopped for over thirty years now by people wanting to know if we'd sell it. Now I'm ready.....and I'm not sure where/how to start.

I do have a digital camera, and can take pictures of anything that would help.

Pictures will help a ton.
Rust will be your downfall if it is bad. It is easy to fix evertything else though.
Take some general pictures of the vehicle and then some closer ones of the rust. It may not be as bad as you think, but if it is bad it will decrease the value considerably.

JetC, I know this won't help much but i have seen them for as low as $250.00 on up. Condition is ALWAYS the determining factor. I would say that if you can't get what you want out of it as a complete unit then part it out. Some times the parts will sell for more than the complete unit will (that's why so many people are in the scrap business...)

I agree with '71. The amount of rust will be the primary factor in the price of the truck because it's the most expensive thing to repair.

At the low end, if there's so much rust that it's not worth repairing, you might get $500 out of it from someone who wants parts. It doesn't sound like you have any rare options, so there's no special value in it.

Welcome to the board! No one can give you a guestimate on description alone.

You might have some real rare options on that Blazer like: factory AM/FM, cruise control, tow hooks, tilt wheel, tach dash, CST package, shoulder belts, perfect single wall top, etc, etc.

Check out the Blazer Randy (teeitup) bought on a thread down just a bit posted by midstate_67-72. He paid $750 on ebay for it, and everyone is saying he got a smoking good deal.

When you take pics, make sure you get a good close-up of the glove box decal that lists the options. If you have trouble pisting pics, e-mail them to me at *****************@yahoo.com, and I'll resize them and post them for you.

Hi and Thank-you! I've gotten a good idea of what needs to be photographed now....but also realized that I need to wash this vehicle before I take any closeups. It's mud season here in Kentucky.

I'll attach a quick shot for the time being, more to follow. It may be a few days (we're in the middle of calving and fencing right now) and I don't want anyone here to think I've dropped the ball.

I spoke too soon. The front seats are in need of recovering, the foam and springs seem fine, but the original 'naughahyde' (sp?) is pretty split. The back seat is still in good condition. A little 'wear' but no cracks that I could see quickly. Plenty of rust though.

Here's the long shot, more to follow:

That's a fair amount of rust. I'd guess it is probably worth in the $800-1000 range.

That is a lot of rust, and almost banishes it to a parts truck. I paid $400 for one with similar rust. Mine didn't have a carburator, so it obviously doesn't run, and has no back seat. I would say that puts yours right where bouncy said.

Do you have any pictures of the interior? Does it have the rear interior panels? Is it a single wall or double wall top?

Thats about the price, like Bouncytruck said. The one I got has a 3.73 posi in it, no back seat. If you were closer to me I'd try to buy it.

The single wall top, tilt, and A/C will help. How are the side interior panels? They look decent, but all I was able to see was a small portion of them.

My original point stands. There were many nay sayers that gave the value sight unseen at as low as $400. Now we have people saying it's worth more than $1000. I'm sure you have had e-mails and PM's offering to take the Blazer off your hands. I'm sorry board members if I stepped in to rain on your party, but I always tell the truth, even if it costs me money.

I would be happy to come to Kentucky and buy your Blazer for... please read my PM...

The sum of the parts is worth more than it is complete. If you part it, you will probably get more than $1000, but you will have to deal with packing, shipping, collecting $ and in the end, you will have the shell of a Blazer to dispose of.
