Shortening a long bed fleet to 7 foot question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Has anyone here cut 12 inches out of their 60-66 fleetside long bed or seen a truck that had been altered in this way? If so, where was the cut(s) made and how does it look? I would love to see any pics if you have them.

Someone on here has a sweet light green/turquoise 7-foot fleet side. I can't remember the name and it would take me all day to go through the threads, maybe he'll chime in. You take 12 inches from right behind the cab. To go to full short bed, you take 12 inches from behind the cab and 8 inches between the rear wheel well and tailgate. The long bed fleet side has larger rear wheel openings than the short bed does, so when you shorten the bed it doesn't look exactly right. The 7-foot bed looks just right in my opinion....

Thanks for that info! My buddy, who is a hotrod guru, felt the same way about taking a foot from the front. I would just like to see one to get a sense of the proportions before we go on the attack.

Right now the 8"front/4"rear and the 9" front/ 6"rear are my favorite cuts.

Comparing the two, the shortbed looks stubby.

short bed look too short and stumpy in the ass end...That's just my Opinion. I like the 7 foot bed

I think 8 and 4 would be just right, you want the rear overhang to be a little shorter than the length of the cab to the front of the wheel well.

I haven't seen that method before and it looks much better than cutting both ends, plus it has to be much easier. Thanks for the pic's!

Although I like the idea of only having to cut and patch in front of the wheel well, I think they look a little tail heavy without taking a little off the back also.
We have to take off the 12" in the front, so maybe only 6" off the back would make it a 6'-6" bed.

I don't , I just searched my pics and found those... I was looking for a photo chop that I had done...

sometimes when I save a pic I will put a message like that on it... but I have know idea where they even came from...
