Re: 47 Step van

youngrodder, thank you, it has been cold as he'll and snowy. Last weekend I was working underneath it while it was snowing. Then Friday I was working on the exhaust and the snow was melting and then I must have rolled in it i do not know how many times. I am over winter already and it has not even started yet!

99 to Life, thank you, it snowed here the past 2 weekends. It stinks working outside but oh well. Funny thing is that I have not even put my 4x4 dually in 4 wheel drive yet. I am still trying to work out the bugs on the lowered one yet. Hopefully over my Christmas vacation I can make some time for it.

Re: 47 Step van

I started working on the aluminum roll pan tonight. It will have a 1 inch recessed area where the exhaust will come out. I had to make it wider so that I could cut out the rot on the one side. Both ends are stepped so that it can be riveted to the body and it will fit up right under the rear doors. Friday I will TIG weld it together and hopefully finish the exhaust if it does not rain or snow.

This is the second time writing this because when I attached the pictures it wiped out what I wrote. Does anyone else have this problem? I usually write in one post and post pictures in another then I do not lose what I wrote!

Re: 47 Step van

We'll I had off from work today so I worked on the step van today. I started off TIG welding in the recess in the roll pan. Then ground and sanded it up. Next was to fit it up. I then finished up the exhaust. I had to do over the axle and out the back. I still have to do the hangers in the rear. The parts store only had 2 when I was there, go figure. I also cut some spacers for the frame where it go higher for over the rear. Then make the mount for the brake booster and the pedal assembly. I used 1/4 inch plate. It is actually going above the frame because of how you set in the truck. I will share a little trick. I used as slitter wheel and only cut about 3/4 of the way and then bent it till I was happy with it. Then I cut a gusset and tacked it in. Then welded the gusset so it would not change and welded where I did not cut through. Sure beat having to deal with a bunch of pieces.

Re: 47 Step van

Shannon, back of truck looks great with the tips showing. Exhaust looks super, and you did this outside, on jack stands, in the snow (holy sh!t). I have had trouble with pics sometimes, I think alot depends on size of pic, time you doing it, etc...Jim

Re: 47 Step van

Shannon, trucks looking really nice; fab work is spot on as usual. I think its a Really good idea to repurpose the old iron for modern business, should really grab people’s attention.

Re: 47 Step van

oldman3, thank you. Yes some of the working conditions have been fun. Not! It is too big to fit in the garage plus Kens 51 is still in there. I like the tips, I am going to turn up some inserts for them so it is not just the pipe. The inserts will be aluminum too.

Bubba54, thank you, I too think it is neat to use it for the business. I think the people will remember the name when they see the truck because of how different it is.

99 to life, thank you. I will be using that style of rivets on the roll pan and a few other places on the outside so it blends it with the old. I just have not bought them yet.

Skymangs, thank you, I am watching your builds on here and FB.

48 GMC BURB, thank you and glad you are pleased. Yes rolling right along.

I now have the pedal assembly in, I have one more bracket to make for back on the master cyclinder. I then started to fit the front floors and dog box. I ended having to make new drivers side floor board because someone did some trimming and now they do not fit. So I made some of my paneled floor boards, just out of aluminum this time. It was fun with all the angles. I will rivet them like the factory ones were. Out of aluminum so I have to buy some by the end of the week.
