Re: 47 Step van

Just noticed this build, wonder what's inside your head for ideas, must just be swirling inside there...but I sure do enjoy it, you have some wicked skill man. Thanks for sharing and the ideas for us to change up and use again.Rick/Mudman.

Re: 47 Step van

Bubba54, thank you. It did work out really well. The nice thing was that if i need a different box they would exchange it. I figured the right one so I did not need another one. They offer them every 2" in length.

99 to life, thank you. No I made the perforated part. I layed it out, center pinched it and drilled it with a 1/4" bit. Then opened it up to 3/8". It was over 100 3/8 holes. I used a unibit so I got a round hole.

Mud.man.rj , thank you. My full time job I program and run Cnc mills. So when I am running it and the rest of the time I am always thinking of how to do things. I love to build things as you can probably tell. Feel free to use any of my ideas, always glad to show anyone.

Re: 47 Step van

Today's progress was to make front marker light and buckets. Ken got a really good deal on the rear red ones and I made a matching set for the front. I have the material for when I make custom turn signals and tail light. I made the bucket with 1156 sockets and I bought 1156 LED bulbs. Then I figured out what I needed for the gas tank. Then started to blank out the pieces and paneled them for strength. I have the ends tacked on. It will have 2 baffles inside of it. It is a 20 gallon tank.

Re: 47 Step van

Shannon is this how you make your tail lights normally for the trucks. Was curious how you went about them.

Re: 47 Step van

Mud.man.rj, thank you very much.

Wickid demon, yes that is how I make them. The transparent acrylic and special cement comes from delvie's plastics inc online. The prismatic sheet on the back is defuser sheet from lowes for drop ceilings. I cut them out on my wood band saw or you can with a jig saw and buff them to shape on the belt sander. You can make any shape or size rather than what they make. I always use the 1157 or 1156 sockets from the parts houses and the LED bulbs. Not heat and not a lot of current. Nothing to it.

Well I have the tank welded together and the baffles in. I still need to make the bongs for the fittings, put in the fuel sending unit and put the tube in for the fill. I also made the tank mount also. I have not gotten much done the week because we got snow on Monday and a ice storm on Wednesday which took out power at home and at work. We were fine because I have a generator and back feed the house through the garage welding outlet. So we had heat, power to the refrigerators, DVD player and TV. Our house is mostly gas so we had hot water and we have city water. There are still a lot of people without. I feel for them.

Re: 47 Step van

The pair together. It will mount on the outside of the frame on the passenger side and the fill will be at the factory hole.

48 GMC BURB, thank you

Here is my Sunday progress, I started to work on the heater/AC unit. I knew I was going to mount it on the drivers side because the glove box was on the passengers side and we want to keep it. The bad thing is that there is really no under the dash. There is a bulkhead in front of the dash but it is outside the interior area. So I ended up make a boxed in area for it to go in. If I would not have done that the floor heat would have went outside. So it worked out great. Now I will make the mounts for it. I will probably end up doing it tomorrow because we are getting hammered with more bad weather and snow. If you noticed from the pictures it was snowing on Sunday. I am so ready for spring to come. On a side note I got my front wheels put on my lowered dually. I have to widen the rear fenders 3 inches to fit the back wheels on.

Re: 47 Step van

Looks great Shannon. Is the heating and cooling only in the front? Big box for one unit.

Re: 47 Step van

Wickid demon, thank you. He had bought that and I think is going to also use a boat unit too. He does not want to put anything on the roof because of ruining the lines of the truck.

Oldman3 , thank you.

Home today because it is snowing like hell. We are supposed to get 8-14 inches. Plans today, stay after the driveway and work in the garage for a little.
