Re: You must see this.

LIGHTEN UP GUYS. IT'S JUST A TRUCK. ALL YOU GUYS CRYING ABOUT CUTTING UP A NICE OLD TRUCK ARE THE SAME ONES WANTING STRAIGHT, RUST & DENT FREE SHEETMETAL , & PERFECT OR NEAR PERFECT 38 YEAR OLD OEM PARTS. WHERE DO YOU ASSUME THEY COME FROM?? THERES A FEW NICE ORIGINAL TRUCKS OUT THERE, & IT IS A SHAME TO SEE THEM PARTED OUT. BUT INSTEAD OF CRYING & COMPLAINING, PONY UP SOME DOLLARS & BUY ONE TO KEEP 100% ORIGINAL & SAVE IT FOR YOUR GRANDSON. (BUT IT'S MUCH EASEIR TO JUST SIT BACK & WHINE & COMPLAIN ABOUT WHAT SOMEONE ELSE PLANS TO DO TO A CERTAIN TRUCK. ) THE WAY YOU GUYS ACT, IT'S A WONDER ANYONE POSTS PICTURES OF A NICE TRUCK THAT THEY ARE GETTING READY TO PART. MUDDER WAS JUST POSTING A PIC OF A CAB HE WAS TRYING TO GET OFF OF A TRUCK IN HIS BUDDIES SHOP. HE WASN'T OFFERING ANYTHING FOR SALE OR ASKING FOR ANY OPINIONS ON WEATHER THIS TRUCK SHOULD BE PARTED OR NOT. JOHN

Re: You must see this.

I want it as is. No joke. Anything that old and with that few miles deserves to stay together. That's a piece of rolling history. Talk about rare. PM details please. I'll drive out and pick it up.

Re: You must see this.

This bodyman does a lot of these trucks. I've seen 3 in his shop at the same time that he is working on. He does insurance jobs but when thats slow he has these trucks to work on. He has a 68 in there now that has a whole new aftermarket front clip on. He can't get a hood to fit. He's tried 3 different ones. He can take the parts off of this truck and get his customer going and make money. So if you can take one truck and make 3 from it I think it's a good deal.

I don't doubt the motive. I am looking for a low mileage truck. I am interested.

This guy can build trucks. Just one of the examples of what comes out of his shop. A bodyman like this is a rare Gem in these days and times. He loves these old trucks too.

I disagree. I think it's very wrong to destroy a low mileage truck like that and Frankenstein it to make a new truck. That truck with the mileage it has is not only a work of art, but an intact piece of history worthy of showcase in a museum.

IMO, whoever is thinking about tearing up that truck is incosiderate and should look for parts somewhere else. They should take on this one for a quick resto and sell it to somoene that will actually take care of it. Several boardmembers would kill to have a truck that nice and there's talk of butchering it? That's just insane...if not dumb (no offense ).

EDIT: PS - anyone who says that people should "get over it" or "there's plenty more out there" is missing a huge thing - these trucks are NOT a renewable resource. Everyone you kill means that's one less in the world for people to enjoy (especially if you could have just used repop parts or gotten parts from an already butchered truck on the forum). We probably lose several every day with them going to the junkyard or crusher every day and people are just happy a pig in crap to hack em up and sell em on eBay. If you butcher a truck like this to make another one, you're effectively helping to make this era of truck extinct, which SUCKS. You're no better than the people buying trucks just to tear them down and sell em on fleabay in my book. If you keep up this attitude of "there are plenty more, they're a dime a dozen", you'll quickly make these trucks extinct.

Hey junkyardjohn, once again,it`s you that needs to lighten-up and keep your grumpy ass opinion to yourself.I don`t know why you get away with trolling.Yeah,I shoulda pmed a mod. But,why? It`s obvious right here on the board.
BTW,if anyones whines,it`s you.Everyone has opinioins and some,like me,aren`t afraid to express it.Handle it,Dude!

Like I said before,"good hoods, cabs, and beds can be found".Part a truck like that for a hood? That`s nuts,IMHO.Besides, the front clip is the most adjustable part of the body.I`ve never had a hood I couldn`t line up.

Re: You must see this.

If it makes y'all feel any better my father and I sent about 9 of these trucks to the crusher around 1995. One was a complete (but very rusty) 69 gmc shortbox 4x4 (It was an old family plow truck)

Just think, everyone else's trucks are that much more valuable!

With the amount of sheetmetal and parts that are being reproduced, it almost doesn't make sense to take a truck that nice and use it as parts for other trucks. If I had 6K right now I'd be draggin that baby home. Is it a shame, yes. Can I do anything about it, unfortunately, no.

Re: You must see this.

Sounds a little nicer now. Opinions should be directed to the topic, not a person. I lean towards the side of finding a real parts truck. With each one that I run into I do find something OEM that is still nice. If I found a nice whole & running truck, I would try to buy it or find a buyer and allow one more person to enjoy what we enjoy - driving a classic. Thanks for letting us see another nice original.

I love that cheyenne style 4x4. If I had one I think I'd want it to look exactly like that, same colors and trim.

It would be an absolute crime to take apart that truck. Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine why anyone would even think about doing that.

I don't mind cutting things up, but I think even I would feel guilty parting that one. But I would rather have cherry factory metal than repop stuff any day.

Re: You must see this.

How much for the seat belts?

I personally would keep it but upgrade the brakes and add power steering if it doesn't have any. Maybe aftermarket AC. But, only if it was a 3/4T. For some reason longbed 1/2 tons don't appeal to me that much.

Just curious, for those that would save this for it's history: Would you do the same if the nameplate had a four letter "F" word instead? Just wondering...

Did I say: How much for the seat belts?

No,if it was a Ford,I`d hope someone that likes them would do the same for it as I would if it was a Chevy.I can appreciate a nice original Ford,I just don`t want to own one.

It's obvious that this guy does real nice work from what I can tell (Blue/white truck) and I say, to each his own. It's only material property that someone owns and can do whatever they please with. The medical community parts out much more unique and classic PEOPLE to make someone else whole. Food for thought. Maybe we're taking this way too far
