I'm not sure if the neutral/fawn color on the bezel and glove box for a Z62 parchment GMC is the general rule. My Z62 truck with 611 custom trim with parchment has a black bezel and glove box.

Funny you should pop in! I was reviewing that very issue with Pete last night. Based on the pictures provided and GM Canada documentation, your truck was clearly a Highlander from the factory. But the appearance of the SPID suggests it was a replacement post factory. My THEORY is that the SPID was generated (possibly by the selling dealer) due to a repaint of the glove box door. A SPID blowup, to me, clearly shows fawn paint in a number of locations. I can't help but wonder if it was done at customer request. Or when you factor in the tailgate band and lack of white paint on the tailgate, possibly it was painted black as part of the facelift at some point to more harmonize the interior.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Wow, that is a good theory I had never even considered. This truck still continues to mystify me. I looked closer and yes it certainly looks like the fawn color in the scratches. I'm not sure however how that would have looked back in the day with the fawn against the medium blue dash. A PO likely didn't like the color combo either, so had it repainted. It looks like it was professionally painted as the outside is near perfect. I will have to do some deeper forensics with the glove box and the bezel to find out for sure. Also the instrument bezel would have to have been painted or replaced with a black bezel. Perhaps by removing it, I could see the backside and it may reveal the fawn as well. Thanks for this theory, I will certainly have a better look when I get some time.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I think I spotted a swb highlander in my neck of the woods a year ago. What caught my eyes were the wheel covers. I didn't know what to think until I saw them on this thread. This truck was no junker looked like the owner was real proud cause it was spotless. Oh yeah blue was the color. Think I'll try to photograph it next time.

Nice Find! Have to say that is the only Black/White with Blue plaid Highlander I know of. Promo Package YG8, BBC and a wood bed too. What are you plans?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Not sure yet. I was thinking of putting the body on an original 1972 K10 SWB that I am doing for the wife. The body for that truck is in need for many repairs. I was going to leave the patina since it is going to be a driver. But I am kind of torn on what to do.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Yes, that is VERY nice. Beautiful combo. Personally, I hope you resto it, it's definitely worth it with that original color combo. Black/white trucks are uncommon already, but with blue highlander and yg8 - awesome.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

VERY nice. Welcome. It's not a Northwest thing - but it is a combo package thing. The YG8 is the Highlander Package C (includes all the A and B package stuff and a few additional items), for a bundled savings package price. Great color combo and a nice long RPO list on the SPID. Can't wait for more pics. I'd say you married well...

Btw - camper stuff is completely independent of the package stuff. Note it has the camper wiring, but not the nameplate (Z81) or the camper mirrors. Below Eyeline mirrors were normally part of the Highlander theme and yours has them.

Once I haul it down I will take some better pics. The only thing it is missing are the stock wheels and hubcaps along with the original AM radio.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here's some motivation for you (1st pic is a custom camper in hugger (yours is tangier orange), but, about the same as your truck): 2nd pic is hugger also, but it's so nice, I had to share! 3rd pic is same as your interior exactly. Last pic lets you know what came along with the highlander packages for ref. All are listed on your SPID also. (note that the brochure shows the main color lines running sideways rather than vertically - a topic of discussion on here many times. Factory did them vertically).

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Clarifying question for the the other Highlander-heads out there. What color is the metal atop the dash between the pad and the windshield on non-orange trucks? With a black dash pad I'd expect the metal is painted black to match but I cannot confidently see this part of the dash on the attached pics - some appear not black. Orange trucks will have a black metal dash. Thanks.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Every original truck I have seen has had a flat black forward dash panel and black defroster vents as would be expected in keeping with convention for a black dash pad. The forward dash is keyed to the dash pad color and not the body color.

If you have specific posted pictures in question please post links.

Yes, the seat is in it & someone at some point put a cover on it.

I like the truck because it has leaf springs vs. coils.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I think that truck is just a Custom Deluxe with the plaid seat added. I had the previous owner send me spid and don't recall highlander option on it. And at that time it didn't have that seat in it.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

No spid in the description and no mirrors to tell the difference...

It has the parchment door panels, black carpet and white seat belts so I'm guessing it is a Highlander truck

Looks like that C20 has been sold (did you buy it?). We mentioned it earleir in posts 295, 286 and 284.

The plaid trucks have been a long term effort of mine to bring out facts about them and uncover all those "Hidden Highlanders" out there.
