Vent tube rebuild

So I opened up my vent tube to rebuild in SS and the center line goes to the very top where as the outter ones just penetrate the bottom plate. Does anyone know the purpose/where they should be plumbed?

I don't know what year of truck you have but If you are talking about the tube that connects at the top of the filler neck, that is the vent for filling the tank. It goes to the top of the tank and keeps the gas from burping back out of the filler neck as you are filling it.

I will wait until I know what year your truck is before posting more.

Re: Vent tube rebuild

I assumed its the same for 67-72? I have a 71 K10 Suburban. Also since I have your attention I'm going to hijack my own thread. I just pulled my tailgate lock out and there is no code and your thread said to contact you if so.

There is a difference in the years because the '71 & '72s have the charcoal canister and evap system for the emissions stuff. That is what the extra tubes are for. The '67-'69s don't have that. (except for maybe in California) That is why it is important to give all the information you can on your truck when you post questions....

If all of your emissions stuff has been removed that would be why the outer tubes don't go anywhere.

I will PM you my info.

Re: Vent tube rebuild

The tubes dont go anywhere because I replaced the fuel lines except for there because I swapped to diesel and I forgot where they go. So then I dont need the vapor tube? I just need to vent the tank?

You need to keep the tube that goes from the top of the filler neck to the top of the tank. You can get rid of the rest. Just make sure all of the openings you aren't using are capped off on the tank. You will also need a vented gas cap.

Re: Vent tube rebuild

The tube inside the truck is a fuel separator. It's purpose is to prevent liquid gasoline from getting to the evap canister. Newer vehicles put a dome on the top of tank which eliminated the need for the separator.

You should not have any need with a diesel.

Re: Vent tube rebuild

Okay well if anyone is in need of a new vapor tube, I was in contact with a company that can do the vacuum brazing to make it factory original, or I can make them differently that still functions as factor .
