Parking brake cable to pedal assembly

I can’t figure out how to connect the clevis end of the cable to the pedal assembly, there’s a good 1 1/2” gap I’d have to stretch the spring on the cable and I’m lucky if I can move it a 1/4” it’s so stout.

Also I have to put the round cable through the square hole in the firewall which doesn’t fit of course short of opening up the hole a touch any other suggestions?
