Hey All,
I finally went out and did it. Since I was a kid I dreamed of an old Chevy pick up to restore and I found it. A 69 Chevy that came standard with the 350 and sport suspension. It was one hell of a truck back in the day, as the pictures I have depict. I am the fourth owner now. The orginial papers are with it and it has had a new motor (350), much chrome in the engine bay and new battery and exhaust job. I have restored other cars before but this is the first truck. It needs a lot of work ut it is mostly cosmetic. i want to give it a tune up first. Plugs, wires, rotor and cap and air filter. I don't know what works best so i ask the truck guru's to help me here and one other thing i Can't figure out..How to bend the bench seat so I can get all the trash from behind the seat out. thanks for the help and look forward to getting to know you. Well unfortunetly You can't fold the seat because the gas tank is behind it. Sounds like a nice truck what options does it have? get some pictures on here ASAP! we wanna see it!. Oh b.t.w welcome to the board from British Columbia!

It's true the seat on a 67-72 will not "bend" but only 8 bolts hold it doun so why not pull the seat, then the floor mat and give it a good cleaning for starters. You can get the last owners funk out. Most have far fewer bolts actually in place after all these years. When I got my truck I pulled the seat and floor mat and found $55.00 under the mat!

I think the deluxe seats didn't fold. I don't know why it wasn't the other way around

One thing, I would try to find a HEI distributor instead of doing anything to the old points one. they are really easy to put in, and since you are replacing the wires already, it won't be that much harder. And, if you have the money, just get a K&N air filter, then you won't ever have to replace it again. BTW, welcome to the board

keenee found 55 bucks...hmmm, I haven't been able to find anything but a couple bucks in chainge,a nd a small bag of pot. Well, actually the M.P. dogs found the pot. Now THAT was scarey.
As for your seet folding, it seems that some of the trucks that were low level opton trucks had folding seats...I've had 2 '70, and 1 '69, and none of them folded forward. Nothing back there but your gas tank anyways.

I agree with neonlarry, if you're going to do a tuneup anyway, go for the hei distribuor. 50 bucks from the junkyard, and it starts easier and will probably pick up 1-2 mpg as well. It's a direct swap, with the exception of a couple of little wiring changes. I can't help with the seat, my '72 had a 60-40 slit bench from a '98 in it when I bought it (that's another mod that I would highly recommend!)

The stock bench in my 71 folded forward, but it is now under the cement floor of the garage across the street.......ssshhhhh!

If you want a quick fix, unscrew the back side screw on each side of the seat. It'll then swing forward for ya. Did that with my 70 to get at the gas tank quickly when I went to bring it home.

My original set is now a soggy bench on the side of the shed.

Previous owner swapped the 4 speed for a 700R4 auto. I'm retired and volunteer at state and national parks. I spend summers in Oregon. Found this truck for $800 and offered $600. Paid for it with $$ made from recycling bottles and cans. Oregon pays .05 per can/bottle. Now doing restification with recycled parts purchased with recycling $$.
