On my '71 GMC, the parking brake pedal is not coming up fully when I pull the release toggle. Is there a lost spring? It used to pop right up. Now the parking brake is sometimes at halfmast when I take off into traffic. I have to pull it up with my big toe. I looked in one vendor's illustrated catalog but didn't see any replacement springs for sale there. So what gives?

It might be the cable has stretched out and readjustment may be a solution.

There is a small spring that restores the parking brake pedal lever within the assembly. Just check out any similar truck at a pick&pull and get the spring. Mine is the same way but haven't replaced the broken spring yet--hope to get that done within the next 7 years of ownership.(:>)

I use an old brake spring on mine, re-bend the end, works great!

Do you have a 2 wd or a 4 wd?

Jim: It's a 4wd K/1500 Jimmy (like K/5 Chevy Blazer).
BigBlue72: I can try a generic extra spring if all else fails.
Mike: I'll check it out for cable stretch.
Huck: I have a '72 K/5 rolling frame for a parts truck and a K/5 cab/cowl-windshield frame section that also still has a parking brake on it. So I can resource on my own property first.
