Unhappy Smokes after shut off

Guys (N Gals) my old truck is smokin after i shut it off. Right now it is in my garage because if no brakes. I switched to a holley 600 but got burned on it (in more way than one) so i put the q-jet down and after adjusting the timing it smoked out the driver side header, only when i shut it off... Not while running. Any idea's?

Re: Smokes after shut off

Only thing that comes to mind is really worn valve guides that are bleeding oil past the valve stems. When the engine is stopped, the exhaust or intake valves that are not closed all the way will allow the oil to run onto the top of the hot piston and smoke. I bet it smokes going down the road too a little.

Just my shot in the dark.

Re: Smokes after shut off

Maybe i can shine some insight. I switched to a high rise n 600 holley. Well i had a cracked intake (see post ran fine now no spark) now i got it to run but the alternator belt squeals BAD which it never did before. And it smells like antifreeZe not oil. Which makes me wonder wth because i pit the stock cast abd q-jet manifold back on. But it only smokes after i shut it off not while running.

Re: Smokes after shut off

So when you say "smokes"....are you talking about steam? Head gasket?

Re: Smokes after shut off

If you pulled the intake, could it be the intake gasket is shot (if you reused it) or not sealing well. After you shut it down, could coolant be leaking into the intake ports? Not enought to notice while running. Seems to be that these issues started with pulling the intake. So I'd focus there.

Alternator belt squeal could be many things, but if it never squeaked before either then perhaps you got coolant all over it when the intake sprayed everywhere (mentioned in your previous post). Coolant on belts = squeal. Had you not mentioned that, I would focus on a whole slew of other things that could cause it. But your previous post leads me to blame it on the coolant mess. Clean the belt and pullies. Some soap and water should work fine. Make sure it is tight. And not riding too far in the groove. A proper width belt should ride slightly above (or flush with) the pulley outer diameter.
