Not really.

I put a new carburetor on it, but that's about it. I focused all my work on the house this year and the other projects just kinda feel off the radar.

Well, not for long - my wife of 7 years left me 4 weeks ago today - so after I get my life straightened out a bit, I'll be using the truck as therapy.

Checking in on your build... been watching from the beginning.
Your build gave me the inspiration to do a C4 suspended C10
Next time my wife and I are in your area.. (have lots of family in and around Howell having been born there)... I'd love to meet up and check out your truck..
We'll actually be driving my 66 Pontiac-ed GMC..

Let me know! Would love to meet you and have you come hang out!

So...

As for an update...

Truck is patiently waiting as I finish the one-year remodel of my master bath.

I have a couple of interesting (maybe stupid) mods coming up (besides the new engine / trans) I'll share soon!

Hi Scott, how do you like the wheels? I have a chance to pick a set up but worry they are to narrow and will spin to easy, I currently run 275 60 15 on a square with an LS swap. By the way, they look good on your truck.

I love them - but you have to remember I was running an open diff with around 300 HP...

I bought an extra set and plan to have them widened soon; I've just started building the 6L LS engine.

LOL,
Well, the bathroom remodel is finished, does that count!?

Actually,
The truck has been sitting in the same spot as the last pics in this thread. However, I had liberty build a faceplated TKO-600 for me and I have all the machinework finished on the LQ4 to "convert" it into a iron-blocked LS3. ASA camshaft, CNC ported LS3 heads and a truck intake for better torque. Bought a new engine wiring harness / ECU for GM performance parts and hope to have around 500 - 550 horsepower when it's together.

I need to figure out what to do for a fuel system, flywheel / clutch, and see how all this new stuff is going to clear my custom steering rack.

Also, my welder stopped working, so I have to tear into that and see WTF is wrong - because I bet I'll need it soon!

Watch this space.

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10

Scott, Thank you for sharing the link to this thread. I really admire your ability to fabricate. Looking at what you have going vs. what I've done so far makes me feel like a cave man working with a dull rock. Lol!

Looking back to the beginning at the bearing mess in your stroked 350, I knew right away what had happened. Obviously you figured that out long ago.

The LQ4 should really be a hoot when it's in. Even though my truck isn't moving just yet, I'm looking ahead to some future project/s. I have the .060 over 350 that was originally built for the '57 sitting sealed up in storage with less than 500 miles on it. That engine needs to go in to something.

Then there is the burning desire to build another 454 to again, put in to something. I built one for my wife's Big 10 years ago when the .060 over 350 dropped a valve seat (which is why it is now .060 over). She LOVES the big block. That truck was sold years ago now, so there is a nostalgic want for another.

And I can't help but wonder what all the LS love is about. I grew up on small journal 327 Chevys spinning at 7,500 rpm. The Big 10 was my first Big Block toy and it was built to tow, though it would smoke the tires for a city block if you laid in to it. It may be time for me to try something new, just because.

So there it is, three projects lined up, waiting for me to finish the '57.

Keep up the good work brother. Life gets in the way for a while and stuff ends up on the back burner, but in the long run, turning wrenches is therapy and if nothing else, serves as a distraction until the hard times have passed.

-Joe
