Re: Project 66: LS and Frame on the Ground

CB kit came yesterday in a bunch of boxes. I didn't have time last night to go through it so tonight after work I started the unwrapping and began on the front end.
The dropmember uses the factory holes but the bolts are a tad larger so you need to run a step drill bit and you are good to go. From there you add the inner frame support, upper bag mount and engine mounts. The engine mounts will go on the motor before dropping it in to ease that process.
Once the drop member is in its just a process of installing your ball joints and bushings and then installing them on the drop member. Really not too much.
The hardest part is making sure you have the parts on the correct side of the truck.
I still need to install the lower ball joints and the shock relocation brackets and then I am moving on to the rear.
Christmas in Feb

Dropmember and inner frame supports in

Closer look at inner frame mounts

Motor mounts in their place

Upper bag and control arm mount

and most of it in

until tomorrow

and another present for myself...

Re: Project 66: LS and Frame on the Ground

Frame cut and cross member out - took a few cut off wheels and created a ton of dust but we are almost ready for final mockup, paint and assembly of the frame. Weather is ****ty but hoping its dry this weekend so I can get a bunch of these parts painted.
If anyone needs a crossmember let me know

Really nice kit I am impressed. They need some instructions or at least better visuals. Other than that top quality parts.
My goal is to be done and ready for E-Town swap meet are you going?

I’ll be there in my daily but not the Suburban! I don’t have enough time or cash to get it done by the spring swap meet Hoping to have it on the road by mid summer so it should definitely be at the fall swap meet.

Haha - I set ridiculous goals like getting my truck done by then and just hope I do it...

Today was another busy day. I got most of the items a brief coat of paint yesterday so today's goal was to get the puzzle together. I am going to have to clean up some of the paint at some point but it looks fine for now.

Nothing real hard here just a lot of drilling.
Next up is welding the trailing arm brackets to the rear axle and then I plan on getting the wheels back on and engine back in the frame

Re: Project 66: LS and Frame on the Ground

Nothing dramatic has changed we got a lot of snow and I lost power for 2 days and I am traveling for work so I didnt get much work done this past weekend. Regardless I am making slow and steady progress.

I got the 4 link brackets welded to the rear axles which was a nice accomplishment. It is an awkward welding angle for someone new to the craft but I got it done. Added the rear bags as well.

Up front the holes for the ball joints in the spindles werent wide enough so I had to drill them out to the right sizing without over enlarging the hole.
I then got the shocks mounted, steering rack in and my front wheels mounted up as well as my airbags.

Next up is running some air lines and my trans mounts and hopefully getting the air all powered up and ready for the engine.

Re: Project 66: LS and Frame on the Ground

Tackled a few more odds and ends today including mounting the air tank and putting the motor in to check how it all sits. It isn't laying low as it can in the front so I am ordering an F Body Oil Pan kit and hoping that does it.

Looks like some great progress. Are you doing a one piece drive shaft?

Re: Project 66: LS and Frame on the Ground

Always a bummer seeing swb frames get cut for choppin block rear kits. You should have bought a longbed frame for cheap, and sold the swb frame and recouped $5-800.
