To Kill a Mockingbird.

My neighbors and I have a tree right on our property line.

Some crazy dang bird is in it and makes all kinds of noise at night. All night long. It's loud and it won't shut up. It's keeping me up. It never stops. Not for a minute.

I was losing it the other night and was ready to get the old 12 gauge out and let my little feathered friend know my displeasure with the situation.

But I assumed that wouldn't go over too well with the neighbors...Or the Sheriff's Department either. So I let that idea slide and put a pillow over my head.

That bird is driving me nuts.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird.

Put a dummy owl in the tree. Google dummy owl. Might scare away more than a bird

A friend of mine had a problem like that he finally hung a Rubber Snake in the tree, seemed to scare the bird away.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird.

Good luck with the bird. Our wildlife has been out of control this year. Way more squerel, chipmunks, mice, and the bird population has exploded. The birds are trying to make three nests on my porch. I had a deer less than 50 foot from the porch at 6pm yesterday. All the while I have 2 coon hounds that enjoy running them off or treeing them. I saw my resident black snake a couple days ago with feathers in his mouth and the dumb birds were sitting one foot from him! As I am typing this I just had a dove land on my porch rail 3 feet from me.

You might try sticking a blue tooth speaker next to the nest and play a ton of music. If you are lucky they may move on before it is really established.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird.

I think the vocal owls that hoot on motion might work, or the red eyeballs, or the moving head. I'm not concerned about dummies either, but when they open their mouth it gets scary. When their eyes light up red I am solid gone!!
……………………………..
In my best old timer voice:
"Reminds me of that job I did down in Baltimore back in '74. Old TV repair shop had a fire and we wuz a fixin' it. Had to park in the back lot and go through the back door. It was gattin' into the "bad" part of town. I'll just say we wuz eatin' some good soul food down there for lunch. I parked under the big tree on the back lot for shade. Probably the only nice big tree in the neighborhood. The far side had a log or telephone pole length laying there with empty liquor and beer bottles covering the ground. We come in Saturday morning and a couple men were finishing up loading the chunks of tree into the dump truck. I asked "Was that tree dead? Did lightning hit it? Why did they have you take it down?". The guy answered, "They couldn't get the boys to stop sitting under it to drink so they had us cut it down" ! That was a profound moment in my youth. Never thought I'd see a wonderful tree cut down to get rid of drunks. I wondered why they wouldn't have first tried getting rid of the log they sat on.

How does this relate? An absolute solution would be cut the tree down .

Does the bird bother your neighbor? I'd hate to see both of you getting fed up at the same time and decide to shoot it. We might end up with two dead from crossfire and one happy singing @#%*&$$XYZ bird! You guys really need to get together on this

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird.

there is a predator simulator that is literally a very dim red led in a small tube with a lens at the end. it works on the principle that night predators eyes are reflective and when prey sees that reflection they are terrified. my friend uses one in his veggie garden, hasnt needed to shoot peter rabbit and he says it even scares the coyotes

We had people down the road with pea-effin-cocks! What a selfish hobby?? I don't know if someone shot them or the owners but I don't hear them anymore. Maybe they just screamed themselves to death

2 of my Aunt's live just south of this story in FL and the birds have started entering their area. They are one reason I am happy to be deaf now. Legal or not, they would disappear

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird.

I lived in the city of Cape Canaveral for a while on business travel, on and off for about three years. There's a community called "Villages of the Seaport", and the surrounding area has peacocks running all over. They're protected, so when they stand there in the road, their pea-brains don't seem to be able to process ideas like getting out of the (&)%RTY&I* way- you can't just sort of push them along.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird.

A few years ago I had a robin that would sit on the roll bar of my Blazer and poop on the seat. I tried everything I could think of - noisemakers, fake owls, lights. It pooped on the fake owl. It finally flew away in the fall and didn't come back the next spring.

I was working by the L.A. Arboretum. There are Peacocks all over the place. I was just sitting in my truck doing some paperwork when I heard this blood curdling scream like someone was getting murdered. I about peed my panties. Then I saw this Peacock on the roof of the house that I was parked in front of screaming it's head off. Those things can really scream.

That reminds me of a time I was in a really bad neighborhood. Same story. I'm sitting in the truck doing my work when I hear gunshots. Lot's of gunshots. I hit the deck. Then I look around. People are just going about their business like nothing happened.

I found out later that the Sheriffs Dept. has a gun range right next to where I was. I didn't know that. Although even if I did and I heard shots in that neighborhood. I'd still duck.

I spent a month in Ilion, New York back in late 2008. Ended up making a really good friend up there and I referred to him as my yankee hillbilly friend. We talked a bit different but our attitudes were almost exactly the same. He had a 100 yard shooting range in his back yard.

Right now I am having a running battle with the Martin birds trying to build their mud nests in my front door area. I'm winning right now but had to really resist using the 20 gauge a few times.
