Cab rust repair. Leave it on the frame?

I'm about to take my first crack at rust repair. With a rusty cab, can I put it up on a wood box to make it easier to work on or should I leave it on the frame to keep it from going out of square?

I've been watching Gibson63 on Youtube and I noticed on his red truck he put the cab on a wood box and on his more recent patina blue truck he left it on the frame.

i always leave them on the frame for cab corners and rocker panels, but any thing further in may require cross bracing the cab before removal. I’ve done it both ways and had no issues just make sure you mount and align your doors before welding. It would help your cause greatly if you have new cab mounts if you are doing it on the frame.

Re: Cab rust repair. Leave it on the frame?

Here are some pictures. It had front end damage that shoved the fender into the driver door. It folded the front edge of the sheetmetal on the door but didn't seem to push it out of alignment. I'm going to hang a door on it from another truck to make sure the cab is still straight. The plan is to use this cab on a shortbox frame that's already getting blasted.

Sounds like the best way forward would be to replace the cab mounts, bolt it back down, put the frame up on blocks and work on it that way. My friend already stole the frontend suspension bits off of it so it will need some blocks anyway.

I did all my work with the cab sitting on blocks, just be sure to weld in braces if your going to remove the rockers or floors
