my 67 flatbed wont stop

Hi im luke and need help finding a way to upgrade my brakes it still has the 4 original drum brakes and sorta slows down!
A little history when i got the truck its prievius owner had left it parked for 10 year on his property in oregon .
That was 16 years ago and this truck is a miracle turn the key and the old 292 fires right up, it is very rusty so i dont dream of perfect restoration just trying to keep it on the road
Thanks

It might help to post info on the truck.
It probably needs brakes. A front disk swap and power will help.

Drum brakes are just a good as discs, and way lighter.
Get you drums ported, and no reason to convert.

Thanks 4 wheelin for that advice.
I was reading somthing today and saw the cuote " if it aint broke dont fix it" and i think a conversion to disk would require removing some parts that tecnicly aren broke
Im going to look into fixing my brakes while keeping the truck original

Re: my 67 flatbed wont stop

If you want it to stop and stop right now you really need to convert it to front disk, you can find local guys who are selling the kit from trucks they have parted out easily enough for around $175 you will probably have to swap out the calipers for some rebuilt ones from O'reilly they are $20 apiece. If the guy has a couple of different racks to choose from try to get one with tight tie rod ends, if not you will have to buy inners and outters for it.
If available you can also pick up the GM disk brake master cylinder, prop valve, booster and linkage assembly that goes through the firewall, make sure you grab all the bracketry for it as well.
It's worth the expense because the truck will stop on a dime instead of sorta stop.
