Question Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

Where would I find the paint number on my 77 Black Sport? What makes
this unique is that Black (#86) was not available on the regular C10-C30
Chevrolet Pick-Ups. But by ordering COPO (9J8) Chevy Sport 9V1 Black
became available. I'm sure 9V1 is on the SPID. Is the paint #86 anywhere
on the truck? Thanks in Advance--Larry

P.S. I'm assuming the paint number (86) is correct since that was available on other
77 trucks like the Blazer and etc.

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

Only on the SPID, as far as I know (ie, it's not etched or stamped anywhere else on the truck. The only thing would be if one of the line workers had written on the firewall with his crayon, to indicate to fellow workers what was coming).

Do you have the build information for your truck? If not, I would encourage you to check with the GM Heritage Center archive and see if you can get the invoice for your actual vehicle.

It's $50 or so, but well spent in this case I would think.

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

Here's an info kit for the 77 Chevy pickup.

I ran out of time reviewing it, but you might want to see if there is anything that catches your eye here.

Keith: I got all conceivable paperwork on my truck including the one
you indicated from gmheritage. Nowhere is the paint code (86) mentioned.

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

Is any paint code mentioned?

It should show up on the invoice, at a minimum....

K

(see code 72U, Apple Red N/C as shown here)

Keith: Dug out all my paperwork and found on the Invoice and Build Sheet
the option number for Black (9V1); no mention of (86-Black) on them. Also
the same result from GM Heritage paperwork. (George Zapora)
Larry
P.S. Truck in storage now; will look again at SPID when I get a chance.

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

I suspect the 9V1 specified yours as black

Often special order and fleet colors will not have a regular color code listed

I think the Chevy Sport in 77 was available in Black or Lite Blue

I had a lite blue one in 77 but it is long gone

if anyone out there has a lite blue 77 scottsdale short bed ......

It may have the other code

As you noted the actual COPO was 9J8

Again ...going from memory you could actually get a "double COPO" truck by ordering 9J9 to get the "sport rail"

What the rest of the world called a roll bar

Couple questions for 80SPORT:

(1)I assume your 79/80 Sports also have no reference for the Paint Code;Correct? I'm sure your SPID/Paperwork do sure the Paint Option.

(2)Was the body color of your nice 79/80 Sports available for other
C10-C30's or was it exclusive only to the Sports?

Thanks; Larry

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

The 78-81 Sports and Street coupes were RPOs (Z77)....regular production options rather the COPOs....central office production options

As such they used standard production colors and were identified as such on the SPID

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

I know this is an old thread, but I really like talking about options. I found this because I was looking at info about 77 chevy sports 9j9, but this thread has more to do about 9v1 black.

I have a 76 cheyenne that is 9v1 black. No 86 listed. In these years black was not on the regular list of colors, but you could order it copo. My 76 is not a sport, but it does have 9v1 on the spid.

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

geez Keith, I bet you can't even come close to getting a brand new truck for that sort of coin now a day! I didn't actually crunch the numbers, but my quick and inaccurate head math says you paid somewhere in neighborhood of 14 grand?

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

No - back then I got "PEP" pricing (formerly known as "Class A"), which was about an 18% discount.

The 9V1 code is a fleet color code rather than a COPO option

Back then you may have been able to order 1 unit in a fleet....or a dealer may have ordered the required number as a promo

Neat truck ...big block/tach/buckets

The Sports were only available on Scottsdale trim levels

By 1999 the minimum fleet custom color order was 10 units.....one of our local dealers ordered 10 short bed 2wd pickups in millenium yellow

Re: Question for Keith Seymore/80SPORT

FWIW, I am decoding the paint info on my '77 K20. I could only find the "9V1" listed as the paint. My truck is primarily black with a silver/gray inset. It's also a "Bonanza" edition. Thanks for posting all the info guys!
