Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

see above where the front drive line goes the hole and the hanging rod it is part of the 4x4 linkage and it is pulled out it dosent seem striped on the rod or in the hole but ether way im not sure what it dose guessing it makes 4x4 work and what could of happen or what would fix it

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Are you talking about the piece directly above the front drive shaft? I would have to look under my truck, but I think that is just a pivot point for the linkage that activates the 4WD.

Does this help any? They are the only ones of the front of the transfer case that I have here at work.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Look at page #711 in you maintenance manual. It calls both of those locations "Shift Rods", so it must not just be a pivot point.

They are both shift rails, they both move in and out to at differnt times for 4x4 high, 4x4 low and 2x high as well as netural.
Disconnect the clevis and thread it back in and reconnect if it pulles out you need a new rail or clevis or both, or maybe a thread insert.

it goes in and pulls right back out freely the threads on the clevis part and in the shift rail hole look fine almost as if the clevis is to small? to replace both the rail and the clevis is it a very hard job to do?

Hey Kro, if I may offer a suggestion (sorry, I am no help with your transfer case), maybe post a thread "4x4 transfer case issue, help!!!" , more members will get to see your issue. Chevy Man is no doubt a valuable resource for you with this, but no harm in inviting others to share their experiences with you
Good Luck, enjoying following along with your build!

Wow.You get right to it! Ive seen so many "restoration" threads on various forums and they never seem to get to far past the first post stating their plans.Nice to see someone actually doing it,as oppose to just talking about it.Great job!
