Rally rims or GM white rims with hub caps? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

At one time I was thinking rally rims. I even passed on a set for $200 this summer. I'm thinking now about going with the GM white steel rims with the the OEM chevy hub caps on the 4x4.

What do you prefer and why?

I like the rally's on trucks that get washed and loved more than not, but the white steelies are what I run on my wintertime 4x4. Easy to clean and repaint every 5 years!

You cannot go wrong either way.

I like both ..but white wheels with caps and oversize tires look great to me

How do you go about with the repaint? Sandblast? rattle can?

most of my trucks have rallye wheels only thing that doesnt is the plow pig that gets whatever is around

I like the Rally style, but my latest truck is a 3/4 ton, so I cant put those on it. I love the stock white rims and hubcaps. I'm more for stock than custom. I'm weird that way, lol

Wazzabie...if you want the finish to last, get them powdercoated..
paint is ok..but powder is best
I got a set of stock wheels ordered from uswheel..they only come in black..when they show up, off to the powder coaters they go..for a satin white finish

Another white rim with caps would be to use a set of the GM Sport Truck wagon wheel style steel rims. They accept the rally wheel style caps for the white wheel/chrome cap look. Can be a bit of a chore to find a nice set, not as common as they once were. Think they were offered from 78-83 as a stock factory option. Original GM wagon wheel style Sport Truck rims have a softer curved edge to the triangle cutouts. After market wagon wheels have a sharper edge to the cutouts. Also the factory wagon wheel Sport Truck wheels are drilled and tapped for the three rally wheel center caps. Those two differences will tell you if original GM or aftermarket wagon wheels. Makes a nice period correct look. PA6 is the option code

Thanks it does get a lot of attention everywhere I take it the cap is a custom made by Beco in Denver PA .

I am going to put these on a 86 short bed that I just picked up
Truck has a big cam big block in it and I pick it up Saturday
Iwill post pics when I get it power washed

I agree completely. Both look great but steelies with hubcaps and bigger tires are the direction I’m going in. I’ve started hording the earlier style dog dish caps. I have Chevy for my blazer and now I’m trying to find a GMC set for my jimmy. The really hard ones to find are the open cap for the front 4x4
