tank relocation, not straight cross member on chasis?

hi all, just started on my c10 external tank relocation and after lifting the bed off realised that the cross member above the chassis rail is not straight, it measures 3 cm out, should i rectify this while im in there or is there a reason why Chevrolet done this (strengthening geometrics perhaps)?

i said above the chasis rail, i meant above the diff.

the chasis rails look lower on the pic but they or not, its just the right side is closer to the rear then the left creating an illusion, checked them with level and perfect.

It is factory correct, that's the way they are all made.

GM intentionally skewed one, at least on my 3/4 ton. I believe it's the one you are asking about. I zoomed on the best pictures I could find in my file. Perhaps they'll help answer your question.

This was done to prevent the frame from "racking" into a parallelogram if one frame rail was pushed/hit. Don't try to fix it as it's not broken.

What I did to fit my tank was to move the rear crossmember back about 4" or so.

Ahh, that's good news. And thanx for pics, looks exactly like mine. Using a 67 mustang tank, bit of a squeeze but looks like it will work fine. I'll post some pics when I'm done. Thanks for the help.

Yes please post pics of the mustang tank installed. Are you going to sit it on top of the frame.? Or build a little frame to slide in.?

Well, she's in and she fits, couple cuts on lower chassis rail (nothin that effects strength) and slid right in. I've 15mm spacers going between the top of the tank and upper chassis rail so tank will sit approx 3mm below upper rails and bolts right in. More pics as I get on. Just need a electric fuel pump now with regulator for my 4 barrel edelbrock, what y'all think fuel pump wise? been looking at Holley or faccit?

Gotta couple ideas, seen one done behind the tail light, looked pretty cool but depends on how much work entailed as I'm on a schedule kind of.

i was wondering because of the way the neck sticks out. have you sat the bed on it yet to see if the neck will clear?

Could you post some more pics of the fuel tank? Looks super. Maybe a license plate fill neck?

I used this filler through the bed.

A few things to keep in mind.
You will also need a vented gas cap as this tank does not have a vent.
You'll need to make sure you can still fit the bed bolts in the frame rail.
You'll also need to mount the bumper bolts as well.

Yeah it fits fine, plenty clearance.
Straight through the bed is the simplest option and maybe the one I go for yet.
Vented fuel cap for sure and im losing the bumpers and replacing with smoothing panel.
