This is more important if you are painting metallic or pearl paints than solid colors. It's also cheap insurance that the panels are all the same, but not absolutely necessary. Weather and paint mix can come into play, but if the paint is from the same batch, and mixed really well, there shouldn't be much of a difference on a solid color.

No, not outdated at all. My dad prefers to paint in pieces like this when he can. It is a lot less taxing on him (he will be 70 this year and has been in the game a loooooong time) and he ends up with better quality.

However, when painting metallic, you really have to have it fully assembled in order for it to look right. The paint on this truck has no metallic.

Thanks for the compliment. Your truck is killer! I checked out the build on it a few weeks ago. I really like that color and may consider doing something similar on my personal c10 when I am ready to paint it in a couple of years (my son is going to be a lucky boy).

Also, I responded to the above question as well before I saw your answer.

Re: '68 c10 build

I didn't take any new pics today, but I managed to get the latch assemblies installed in the doors. The fenders, grille, and upper wiper valance are going into primer this afternoon.

Today we finished getting the doors aligned properly. The weatherstripping is still very tight but the gaps are great.

Re: '68 c10 build

We also got the white sprayed on the front of the fenders. We aren't running the trim on the face of the fenders/hood so we cut the line where it ties in with the grille. I think the blue will be sprayed tomorrow or Monday.

The inner fenders should be back from powder coating this afternoon so the front should start going together early next week.

I also totaled the receipts today and ball-parked what we have left to buy. Yikes!

Re: '68 c10 build

Great progress so far. I am building an extremely similar truck right now for resale infact it's almost disturbing how close our tastes are. Talking about receipts I hear ya. Still have interior, trim, bumpers, glass, paint, and in the number is staggering.

Do you have a build thread going? I'd love to check it out.

Not for this one. But I might start one when I get my parts back from powder coat and start assembling.

Re: '68 c10 build

The front fenders are in paint and are currently being color sanded and buffed. They came out great as well. Hoping to have them installed today or tomorrow. We also got the new Dirty Dingo AC bracket and pump installed. I will take pictures of this if tomorrow if I remember. Fantastic product!

Re: '68 c10 build

Did you have to do any gap work on the new fenders? Especially to the new hood. Paint looks great by the way.

We had to do a little trimming around the inside of the fenders where they mate up with the radiator support. We are using an original hood and it's a little rough so we will make it fit the fenders. We haven't even touched it yet though.

Today we got the passenger side fender on and aligned. Also in the picture are the new inner fenders. We did have the inner fenders powder coated to match the radiator support.
