Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
I am keepin it on my list also, I think it's really pretty nice - but to be honest, when it comes to actually buying one, I prefer a TH400 and 71+ for factory disks. As much as I like wrenching on trucks, the less wrenching I have to do on a motor home to add disks or add a/c or swap an auto trans, the more time I can spend actually using it. Ha. Cool truck. So, if the seller ever frequents this site, he now knows at least three people are looking and will probably raise the price! Quick, delete this thread!
And I agree, this one is a little overpriced, but it sounds as though it's quite negotiable. Prices are relatively low anyway for what you're getting for your money because the market for them is so small - most folks don't have room to leave a class c motor home lying around the property. I'd have to kick multi vehicles out into the cold just to get this one into the barn for an oil change - if it could even make it thru the door. |

Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
You guys read my mind. If it'd be a -71 or -72, it might be worth $5.000. For me.
However, for that one I'd offer $4.000. Judging by the pictures (only), you'd need to invest about $2.000 in it to have it road- and campingworthy. Depending on one's standards/needs, of course. It'd need at least a new set of tires and loads of technical attention. The gas and water systems might be real money pits. I'm a bit price-sensitive though, since I've probably seen too many good ones for $5-6.000... Registered and ready for camping. But now we're drifting off-topic. Here's a bit more of camper love. BOOM. |

this one was on cl a few months ago - wish I'd looked into it. Did contact seller, but she didn't seem to be too into selling it - wouldn't take any additional pics, ha! Anyway, wondering if a member ended up buying it - 72 C20 Cheyenne Custom Camper in dk olive.

Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
Sad one. I snapped this picture about 10 years ago. It didn't look like it was that bad until the wrecking yard got a hold of it.

Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
i just bought this (you can ignore the pickup) 1967 rancho el rae cabover camper. built in nephi utah. it's surprisingly complete and functional. doing a little cleanup and getting it in good working order. i've tried researching it but it seems to be really rare. i can't find a single picture of another one on the internet! if anyone knows anything about them i'd love to hear! it would be awesome to pair this with a 67 pickup.

Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
Yes, do you recognize this place? I found it here posted in the trucks for sale. Bob held it for me so my girlfriend and I flew to oak town (stopped to blaze one with too short) where my friend in Santa Cruz picked us up and drove us there to get it. It needed all six tires replaced. A very interesting story behind the seller as well.
Needless to say my girlfriend was terrified when we got it and all the tires were shot. Went and bought tools, battery, alternator there in Turlock and we was on our way. Lost the battery just before Death Valley. The heater core blew out in Arizona spraying antifreeze all over the ladies legs. Made it through NM during a blizzard with no heat but we got her home. Thank you jocko for all your cool Craigslist find and other very helpful posts. If you ever come through here you should stop and visit. |

Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
I love those open road units...very cool.
The only thing I struggle with is some of the 'period' look inside in terms of colors, fabrics, etc....that stuff is a little tougher to take....lol. I bought a pickup camper years ago and it had that 1970's dark wood type interior...and I (and my wife) just couldn't handle that whole 'dark den' look. So I sanded it all down and repainted it inside to a very bright color....it was way more liveable and 'cheerful' in there. I did however go with a lot of cool 'period' type fixtures, lamps, shades, stuff like that. If I find some pics I will post them up. ...cool thread, keep those camper units coming! Coley

I think that one is the perfect candidate for you Red white and blue You can buy it for less than what it would cost To rent one from cruiseAmerica.com And Drive it across the country visiting all the national parks After hitting up Disneyland you can come visit Chevyland Remember, I told you we have relatives in northern Germany Well Some are here too, so you would feel right at home, speaking German We could go drop the motor home off at the docks in Oakland Before you get dropped off at the airport to go home So it could be sailed 1/2 way around the globe for your camping trips when you get back You'd be the hit, at every Rv park you went to in Deutschland 🇩🇪🇺🇸 |

Your concept is pretty much exactly what we've been planning to do this year. Provided we'll find THE motorhome for us. Since we'd live in the motorhome about 2-3 weeks with our kids (4-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter), it can't be just any camper (project). I'm looking for a '71-72, so that particular one's not quite in my scope. One major issue is the fact that we must fly over at a pretty short notice. Plus all the registration formalities and possibly required repairs for a longer camper trip. Since we don't know where and when we'll find the one for us, it makes planning a bit challenging. But hey, I'm optimistic, it'll sort out somehow sooner or later. Last edited by nibulus; 07-15-2017 at 05:34 AM. |

Re: Pictures of 1967-72 motorhomes
Hello, I love this forum and especially this thread!! Such great rigs out there, very inspiring.
My '68 Open Road just rolled off the trailer from Boise last night. I stayed up all night checking it out... it's a project for sure. It runs like a dream (kind of exhausty). I'm sure it needs a tune up and fresh gas? I thinks it's been sitting since 2002. I had a carb rebuild and brakes fixed out in Boise... initially thought I would fly out and drive it home, but transport was cheaper, and safer... I got a great deal. Surprised to see no "Park" on the column but a giant hand brake to keep it put... that'll take a second to get used to. It has plenty of dust if anybody needs some. |
