Mating a 58x engine to earlier 4l60e

Thinking ahead to a possible "next project". When mating a LY5 5.3L to a pre-'07 4L60E trans., what is needed for electronics? It's to my prehistoric understanding (71 yrs.) that 58x engines use an ECM that does not control trans. function, so I'm guessing a TCM must be used for the trans., correct? How do the two controllers "talk" to one another? Is a special harness required, or can a vendor incorporate what's needed to make the engine/trans. compatible? Thanks

I think I've found my own answers. When using an e38 ecm, a TCM must be incorporated, and is provided for by the harness vendor, doesn't matter the year of the trans. Just a few more details to attend to, than a Gen III swap
