About a year ago I meet owner of a 65 truck at local post office. We talked a bit, he considered selling it but at that time I was spending all money on my restoration and had no money or place available for another truck. I got his phone nr which got lost since then. I did snap some pics of the truck and license plate at the time.

I am not from US and do not know if there is a legal way to track him down? Police and DMW said when I asked that they can not give me his personal contact info. I would just like to send him mail or message with my contact info to get back with me.

Thanks for any input on this.

As far as I know, there's no way to do it.
If the owner of Papa John's Pizza had to advertise a $250,000 reward to find his old Camaro Z-28 then I'd say us common guys don't have any way of finding a vehicle either.

Ask the people at the post office or put up a flyer there if he was using the post office he's more than likely local to that area

Post a picture of it on here and the city/state it was in.....most likely someone on the boards will help you find the guy.

Or do a search of the boards for the city/state the truck was in and see if you can locate a member there if you don't want to be public about it.

The state's DMV website will have the info on what info you can request. The DMV people sometimes don't know the answers.

I was hesitant to do this, but I paid an Internet Private Investigator $50, and in 10 mins, she emailed me back all the present owner's contact info. Found my 65 for $50.

I had heard of the P.I. thing years ago but can they tell you of all the previous owners or just the present?

Check the local auto parts stores and also any local car clubs.

Just post a pic of the truck without the license plate in it in the regional section and see if anyone knows it or knows the person that lives in the same area if he goes to cruise ins and car shows someone will know him.......I done that before and have had success.......

I would post an ad in the local craigslist offering a 65 SWB fleetside for sale. In the text you can add that you are actually looking for this truck. Chances are whoever is buying/building trucks in that area might know him. It's a thought and free.

I did my homework past couple of days. I considered using private investigator. It would cost $30, not bad at all. I was able to get full owner name from dmv online using tag nr. It was easy from there. I goggled name and I got phone nr and called him today. It was December 2012 when we talked first and he did still remember me. He invited me to his home and we talked some more. Of course I was driving my restored 64 to his place and he loved the work done on it. We discussed some more and he even let me drive it around the area. It has 196000 miles on it, family owned truck since new, his for the past 25 years. One repaint, faded with surface rust, some indication but no rust holes in usual places yet, just what I want. He was Chevrolet mechanic all his life. At 110000 miles he pulled out 283 and put in new 305 engine. It cranks right up and work well with 3 speed manual. No PS or PB and is fun to drive. Now I need to wait couple of days for him to talk with his sons if they all agree to sell it to me. They all want to have it but they might consider my offer. I see already it is going to be long weekend ahead of me waiting for THE call

Update on this is that family did not agree with him selling truck. I guess I am back on the market searching for another one.
