Rear end Question

I'm using a 8.5 10 bolt out of a 79 Z28 in my 51. I bought it all apart, and it had a TCI 4 link, and the brackets are on the frame and also tacked on the rear end. I got around to measuring tonight and the left bracket is around 3/4 of an inch closer to the backing plate than the right 1 is. That would be to allow for the off set in the pinion I guess. Is this the way you all are putting them in or do you center the pinion? The way it is would put 1 side out 3/4 more at the tire, r side, so I don't know if I like that or not.

Re: Rear end Question

I have a TCI 4-link for a 55 2nd series. And when I put mine together both sides where even. The way your sounds is like you said...seems like it would put the whole rear end 3/4" more to the one side of the truck.

Re: Rear end Question

On TCI's website there is directions for thier front and rest suspension's. Just go to the tech support tab. Then scroll down and click on link that is under the year and 4-link you have. Can't go wrong there. Glad you did check it out before commuting to it.

Re: Rear end Question

axle back to back needs to be centered on the frame or the truck will pull to one side or the other. universal joints take care of any pinion offset. My kid had a Mustang with a later rear end swaped in, one side was mounted on the perch, the other offset 3/4", it always was turning to the left ala NASCAR. She just delt with it, we disclosed it to the new owners.

Re: Rear end Question

Thanks guys, but I done decided to center the rear end. Orge, I got to thinking about it pulling, all the drag cars I built the rear was centered in the chassis. Got more replies over here than I thought. Been tired, and back has been giving me fits so my thinking is even worse than normal.
