205 transfer case speedometer

Looking for information on a 1971 NP 205 transfer case. This is in a 72 chevy k10. with a th350. My transfer case was just rebuilt by a friend and looks and works great with one exception. My speedometer don't work! Everything is new to to the transfer case and works fine when I spin it with a drill. This one has a steel drive gear, so it is a smooth bore 7 tooth drive gear. I really can't figure out how it works, it just spins in there? Maybe friction? also from my research it looks like maybe I am missing something in there. Some pics Show a spacer behind the speedo gear, on the output shaft. I don't have that? Any help?
