700r4 issues

700r4 in my 83 blazer started acting weird. It was working completely fine but now for some reason, it won't shift from 1-2 unless I wind the RPMs way up. It's not slipping at all and it seems to be grabbing the gears just fine. 2-3 shift points are also raised a bit but no where near as bad as 1-2. OD doesn't come in until 60-65 when it used to be 45-50. The thing is, when the transmission warms up, it seems to shift normally. I've reset the TV cable at least 10 times with no change. The TV cable doesn't seem to be binding. I pulled the governor out and it seems to be working properly. Fluid level was checked while running in park and hot and it was at normal levels. Any ideas what it could be?

The filter is less than 7 months old. Do you think it could have plugged up that fast?

Re: 700r4 issues

do you have a pressure gauge? check what the pressure is in each gear. you can pick one up at harbor freight for like $40 if you dont have one.

even if the tv cable is adjusted properly, could be a stuck valve inside the valve body.

my 700r4 is toast, sitting in the bed of my truck for rebuild as i type this. i was battling very similar issues and in the middle of checking pressures i lost reverse. before reverse let go my pressures were crazy high, like double what they should be.
