Wining noise from fuel pump
Had a mechanic install an LS1 engine in my 80 pickup. Everything works except the irritating noise coming from the fuel pump. I have to turn up the radio to keep from going def. Can I insulate the pump safely, or should I be
concerned? I have googled the problem and issues could be bad gas, dirty tank dirt in pump and also it could lead to engine damage. Would putting insulation between the frame and pump make a difference? |

Re: Wining noise from fuel pump
Is it a external or internal pump? Brand and size of pump? External are always a bit louder than the internal. I have a Walbro 255 pump internal type in my 68 C10 and has a bit of a whine to it that can be heard sitting still but you can't hear once you get rolling down the road.
If its external yes rubber mount it. |

Re: Wining noise from fuel pump
I also have the Walbro 255 inline external pump in my 49 pickup with a 5.3. Mine is wrapped in rubber to help with the whining noise but it is still annoying. Mine is bolted to the inner side of the frame. I contacted Walbro and they basically told me that is the nature of the beast when you run an external pump.

Re: Wining noise from fuel pump
I suppose I'll live with it till I mount a new gas tank between the rails in the
back with a built in pump. Thanks guys. |
