dash mounted tank switch

I am running duel saddle tanks and duel in tank fuel pumps so I need a switch to turn off one pump and turn on the other pump when changing tanks. I used a factory dash switch to do this same thing for the gauge sending units and it works great. My question is will the same type factory switch work for the pump switching ( I am using 12 gauge wire do to the distance of the wires.). I am trying to figure out if these switches can handle the amp load. Best I can tell the pumps pull between 12-13 amps. They are Walbro pumps. 225 liters per hour. Not a big pump rated up to 650 hp which is way more then my stock LS1. Your thoughts

Re: dash mounted tank switch

Switching can be done with one switch.. For switching the fuel pickup on dual tanks, sending units, and a pump in each tank, you'll need a "three function" switch.. More commonly called a triple pole double throw switch..

Switches come in literally thousands of configurations -- rocker, toggle, push button, etc.. It might take a bit of time to locate the exact switch you want in the configuration you like but Mouser has those switches by the thousands..

Don't know what year you have, for a square you can run the whole 87+ setup including the switch. On the LS Swapped Square body facebook group, under the files section, there's a writeup and wiring diagram in PDF form. Not sure if I can direct link it here.

Re: dash mounted tank switch

Not sure what your setup is, but if you have a return line you could overflow a tank if the lines are not also switched. I use a tank valve from a square body hooked to a 3 way switch. It has connections for the quage built in, and switches both supply and return lines. Could be used to activate relays for the pumps. Pumps are usually power hungry.

Re: dash mounted tank switch

basically running two separate systems so I need two switches. One for the fuel pumps and one for the gauge. Two separate return lines and fuel lines. They merge after the separate filter/reg combos units.
