Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"

I scored some seats today

Here is the truck they came from.

It only had some slight frame damage

And I don't think I posted about my hidden hitch and my Burb tank all done. I still need to finish welding the bed side and make a cover for the filler inside the bed, but it is fully functional and nice to have the extra capacity. My gauge moves so slow now
But it hurts to fill up

And on the whole Texas "thing", momma always said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all

Awesome looking build. I really like the tank swap. I think that's going to have to go on my to-do list. You won't have any trouble finding reasonably priced running gear up here, but be ready to pay through the nose on shipping any parts you need. When I did my EFI swap the shipping on the baffled tank from LMC was almost as much as the tank...

Safe travels.

Nice looking seats there Joe, hope they don't take away to much from the back seat leg room. The kids would not like that.
Gas tank looks great in there, glad to see that almost done! Had any luck finding a topper for it yet? And remember, if it were not for Texas, Oklahoma might fall in to the Gulf.

Thanks Marcus,
Shipping is definitely a drawback up there.

Thanks Randy,
We rode in the uncle's '07 crew with the same seats, it didn't seem any bigger than my crew and it was roomy so hopefully they work out ok. I'm not putting them in the crew right now. I'm gonna put them in the '66 for our trip since I will need to modify the seats or the floor in my crew to get them to fit.

I talked to the topper people you showed me on craigslist. They said they have 2 toppers to fit, one for $350 and one for $450. But he wouldn't give me any good pics. He sent what looked like he took a picture of his computer monitor of the craigslist ad. I told him there was no way I'm driving all that way with out some decent pics first. He said he would get back to me, but that was about a week ago....so I'm still looking.

I could drive over to BA if you need me and have a look and snap some shots, or you could ask Pockets to since he lives in BA. Just let me know if I need to help a brother out.

What hitch did you wind up with?

SCOTI,
I used the same one you had on yours (which is now Jon's), the Early Classic hidden hitch for the 67-72's

yep, not bad at all...
A big thanks to you for showing the way!
I didn't even have to modify it like you had to, no rivets back there on mine.
It wasn't too fun drilling 6 holes in that super thick frame though

I got mine through Carolina Classics and saved $15-$20 on shipping

Joe,

your gonna have to "massage" the floor a little in the 66 for those seats, I had to in my 65. also the seats sit more upright in the 60's trucks, in your crew they would be much more comfortable to sit in.

what did you have to do in the '65 to get the,m to work? Got pics?
I'm just going to "Temp" them in the '66 to get them to AK...

I am just trying to help JohnC and Randy to get over their denial. Honestly, either is better than my hometown in Nowheresville, KS.

Maybe you should just get a Burb to head up north in, and leave this poor CCSB down here. I promise I will take good care of it. I hear they don't like cold all that well.

Those are the same seats that are in my 03. I like them. The rear seems to have plenty of room.

Should have got them sooner, they would be nice for the trip....
If I manage to get everything else done I may try to find the time to put them in the crew....

Good luck on the road trip. I have made the drive from WA to AK three times. Just make sure you have several spare tires and some cans of fix-a-flat. I had at least one tire failure on each leg of the trip every time I made the drive. The crushed rock on the roads from the road construction equipment really take a toll on your tires.

I'm sure you will be able to find some decent 3/4-ton 4x4 parts cheap once you get to AK. The bodies just don't last long but the frames & axles are still good.

Where in Alaska are you headed? I lived in Anchorage for a while. I loved it there and only left because the air force needed me elsewhere.

68TT
we are going back to the Eagle River/Chugiak area.
This will complete 3 round trips for us.
I have only had 1 flat in all of those trips. It was a nail in a trailer tire.
The last time we drove down (2007) there was hardly any gravel on the road.
The first trip (2001) was a totally different story...
