17057229 quadrajet choke question

On a 1977 400 sbc. I have a 17057229 quadrajet carb.
My question is does the divorced choke have to have the tin cover on it or can I run it without one? I currently do not have the choke thermostat or linkage for it, but I have them coming.
This is what th P. O. Did and the choke does not work at all crept wide open lol.
Also can anyone tell me where the vacuum line goes that’s connected to the steel line running to my tranny?
