Headline;
Blow dryer missing, Pete sleeps in doghouse.

Let me in on this. I can get some pictures if needed. I need two each, for 71 and 72, but I will take what I can get.

Let me know what I can provide.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

All I need are the code numbers from your original decal (compressor build date +shift) Larry. The decal should be the same for 70-72. At least all I've seen and those posted on here from 70-72s are the "717s". As Pete has documented, the '72s need the extra 5.25lb overlay decal. So we'll make those too. Basically my plan is to get to approved artwork then put a notice on here for anyone who wants one. I'll give everybody a couple of days to respond with their number and we'll get them all done together. I should have a rough estimate on cost before we take orders.

This is different from the other decals I've done, in that each one is different. Sure, they probably made a lot of compressors in a shift...but I'd be very surprised if we get any duplicate requests for this project.

My 71 Chevelle and Corvette are close enough to use the same data. I'll look at 72 trucks.

Larry do you have a 72 example to post? Only asking because it looks like those for 72 are shorter top to bottom than the other years. These lack the expanse of black shown on post #s 9 and 13. Do you guys see what I’m seeing?

Sorry...Pete. It was so obvious I missed that. Let's get it right. Hate to ask...but if you could tease the whole thing off, it'd be best. If not...then straight on measured pics. Also, I assume the overlay decal was a factory application...as Jim stated he had a 3.25 overlay on his '69 when new...then yours with the 5.25. This seems like a big variation. Any ideas?

No sweat, no problem. Will do. The lbs difference is puzzling as all the components should be the same I'd think. I'll check the service manual for any relevant details. Maybe mine just goes to eleven so to speak

I've also got a green label repro for a 72 vette that I'll check for overlap as regards size and arrangement vis a vis the pickup example in case removal fails.

Here's another purported 72 example that just happened to be posted today I thought I'd repost here - no overlay decal fwiw and 4.50 lbs called out (https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...43&postcount=1 )

I will try to get some pics tomorrow of original 69, 70, 71, 72. I forgot to take my ambition to the shop today, so I came home and bush hogged weeds all afternoon.

That'll be great. Right now it looks like we'll be doing a long 717 and a short 717 and the overlay....hopefully you don't find another variation. So far all the '69s I've seen have been 133s.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

I have unrestored 69 Chevelle SS and 69 C10, 70 Chevelle SS and two 72 trucks. I will see what they have. I don't think I have an original 71, because I sent the compressors off and had the originals rebuilt.

Agree, variances in lbs. is puzzling. That 72 decal is exactly like my 1971 less the Code number. I wonder what the code number means?

OT: Lead on a rebuilt or service for an A6 compressor anyone?

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

Tony to my eye the 71 decal you posted in #13 differs from 72 examples in #s 12, 17, and 32 by overall size as the 72 is much smaller and the spacing between the boxes for code, model number, etc is wider.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

Not ideal but is this a workable alternative? The decal is fighting me some. I’ve got two aftermarket examples. Neither is perfect nor correct.

The green vette example has correct outer dimensions and spacing between the upper decal margin and the top silver band and that between this band and the silver code # box immediately below it.

The purportedly correct red pickup example has correct spacing between the top and bottom silver narrow bands and that between the bottom silver band and the model number box immediately above it. The fonts are off.

Neither has the correct number of silver boxes for model # etc.

I could mail both.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

As I read this discussion, I don't see it mentioned that the earlier labels say "Charge R-12" whereas the later labels say "C-60 & Accessory" and "C-69" with different LBs values. I assume one of these is the R-12 charge, but what's the other? Are they values for different applications such as Suburban and truck? I also assume that a Suburban, due to interior volume, would require a larger A/C system.

EDIT: The difference between 3.25# of refrigerant and 3.75# may be due to longer hoses on trucks made after 1969 that had crimped hoses.

I answered my own question. C69 is the option number for Suburban with roof A/C and C60 is truck A/C.

Eureka! My compressor came from a suburban w rear AC option and I believe that explains the overlaying 5.25 lb decal.

I'm not sure we can definitively conclude that. I think the General was saving a couple bucks and using the same label and compressor on trucks and Suburbans. Just need more R-12 for the Suburban. Sort of like the multi use Pontiac compressor you posted in post 1. If we only knew if the 5.25# overlay was on all compressors. I'd guess it was since the Pontiac compressor does.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

Indeed, the decal on the compressor IS the same. Im describing the added second decal overlaid atop this decal calling out 5.25 lbs charge = more R-12 just as you describe.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

I knew this crew would solve the mystery.

I pulled the one off my '71 Inflation Fighter donor truck today. Build date sticker 8/70 and the compressor date is Aug 7th. It is the same size at the '69...4" tall. It's also the same decal as my July '70 K20. Besides the additional rectangle and print, the 133 and 717 are very similar. (I wish there was a way to make the code no. look stamped).

Pete...honestly if your decal is 2-11/16" top to bottom, I think we should be good to just delete the black space.

Pictured below are my '69 and '71 decals as well as a duplicate of our reproduction 133 decal.

It looks like this is sorted out, but, here a a couple 72's and a 69. I have a 72 Suburban. I will check it next time I am out there.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

Those are useful pics Larry. So the "short" 717 looks like it's 3". I really would like to get one of those shorter '72 decals to make sure we get the size and spacing right. To get that one off today, I just took a razor blade and teased up the corner. Then just slowly peeled it back across itself (not straight up) and was able to get it off completely cleanly. Of course it does get tougher under the muffler, but not too bad.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

Top to bottom it is 3”.

The distance between the inner margins of the transverse silver bands is 1 9/16”.

The four black spaces separating the silver boxes (code no., c69, c60, and model no.) are 1/8” each, which is wider than the earlier years if you eyeball them close on the photos.

Definitely would help if I can get this off undamaged.

Re: Post your OEM AC compressor decals

I will see if I can get one. I surely have a compressor laying somewhere.
