Yes and was it the light green one they showed the back of? I remember that one.

I fully agree and that is why LowBuck is custom but in a stock looking way. Best of both worlds

So now what about "survivors with old paint and rust spots" They are a big thing right now but how much longer will that last? I guess the best part of them is if it goes out of style you just start the rebuild stage.

Re: "Trends"

I agree, rat rods will always be around..... atleast in my house..
I think a "trend" that will go away soon, ( I hope) are the lifted 4x4's w\30" wheels and chrome all over the place with the above mentioned diesel motors.....that the local soccer mom drives! Around here the soccer mom's either drive those or ghey blinged out hummers, both are useless IMO!

Re: "Trends"

The whole, dusty, rusty "shop truck" thing i predict will be mostly gone in 5 years. The best examples of these will survive and continue to be iconic examples though.

Hopefully-- the mass marketing and over-use of the "rat-rod" term will leave.

Primer with painted wheels is ok in some cases, but not on anything newer than '72

Re: "Trends"

Ahhh the trends....I agree out of our current, the only one that will remain a while is rat rod/opatina...but if we are lucky we'll lose the terms and go back to calling them "my rusty/old POS", or "my beater".

Re: "Trends"

I don't follow trends because EVERY damn time I do, it's not "cool" anymore by the time I do it

My 67 is stock height. 15" corvette rallys. No exterior body mods. Simple paint. Simple chrome. If that goes out of style, then our trucks are out of style

Re: "Trends"

I'm glad the Guich and Prada fabric on every piece of the interior is fading out. Just looked tacky. But i think the massive sterio system, clear glass inclosure, fiber glass moldings that take up more space then the motor should go away. Doubt it will anytime soon though.

I agree with the rat rod style, seems they are catching on more and more. Just tires, seat, and a motor that runs. No weather stripping or damn rust rocker panels to replace. Simple is simple. Even if you don't have a floor board, it looks even cooler.

The rat rod is some of my fav because you can see everything that has been done. More pointed on the mechanical then the clean look. Alot like Indian Larry motorcycles.

Re: "Trends"

These are not applicable to the truck trends we're concerned about in this thread, but i had to throw in some of Mr. Dobbertin's over the top work as symbols of the decadent 80's and early 90's-- i am trying to find an engine pic of the J2000, it is beyond wild.

The Grand Am was front wheel drive with a narrowed rear end, just to show how cheap a "Pro Streeter" could be whipped up for a magazine article, and the orbiter, well, it almost speaks for itself -- the most *****en Airstream ever made

Wasn't "Dobertin" the one who did a early Nova with twin turbos and a blower? He definitely took some trends to the next level if he didn't start them.

I remember that one, everyone talked smack becouse there was no rear suspention, so the next year, he showed up with a set of valve springs for a rear suspention. That thing was way over the top, the front clip swings forward, and then the whole rest of the body tilts up and to the back.

Re: "Trends"

A trend around where I live is putting food and merchandise emblems on their cars. They are normally on the blingbling car with the 3 foot tall rims. I have seen sun beam bread, snickers, michael jordan shoes, black and mild cigars, and many more.

No my friend that is the epitome of Pro Street.
The look with the power to back it up.
Pro Street started as a emulation for cruising around fairgrounds and shows.
Then it evolved to the almost pure race cars running mocked up head lights.
Now Pro Street is all about being able to actually drive it some AND pull off insane times.

Re: "Trends"

Big stereo systems arent going away, its the look of the install and the equipment that will change.

While I do like it on some vehicles, i think the black wheel thing will be looked at as a fad in the coming years. I was looking at pics from the past couple years of SEMA, and I swear every other cars had black rims. Most look really sweet, but I still think it will go away.....maybe??

Re: "Trends"

I actually liked Pro Touring... if thats the style that makes it go fast, stop short and turn some Gs. Just going fast in a straight line is not enough for me.

That being said, I've never been in a Pro Street so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. And it's a classic style that I don't think will go away.

I think laying frame will pass.... it's not good for much and you can't get any lower so something else will come up.

Tall rims (over 20) will be the laughing stock of the next decade I predict (if not already).

I agree with you on both points. My taste in stereo systems has changed as I have gotten older. I used to 'need' tons of power and lots of big subwoofers. Now I just need tons of power and a clean sound. And there's always gonna be ppl trying to be the loudest on the block.

I was originally considering getting black wheels after I painted my truck, but I agree that that trend will probably pass. So no black or red or ?? wheels for me. Just polished or chrome!

You can't go wrong with stock rallys. GM came up with that look with the best and brightest of automotive stylest and body men *hate to use the word sytlest*. Even on the newer 05 and 06 HD's ralleys look good.

As much as I like them, those cast-center (gray) Torque Thrusts and Salt Flats wheels will look dated in a couple of years.

I'm not so sure about that. The reason they (Salt Flats) look 'right' is because they're based on the original 60's era 'kidnet bean' mags that were very popular on racers. The grey center TT's are modern versions of the originals. Plus, both are a lot easier w/the daily up-keep too . . ....
