1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

I came up with this. Changes, additions? Not sure about the door panels, I can't seem to find one for a Custom. Below is for a 1971, other years do or may vary. Thanks

With different nameplate badges on the fenders, the standard equipment for 1971 Chevrolet truck trim levels are described as:

• Custom: Vinyl interior, metal door panels, black floor mat, painted hub caps, painted front bumper. Optioned lower side moldings would be black/chrome. Optioned tail moldings would include a lower tailgate trim.

• Custom Deluxe: Everything in a Custom and/or; deluxe cloth & vinyl seat with color keyed floor mat, insulation, deluxe lighter and knobs, black/chrome instrument panel, chrome dome light, wood grain door panels, dual horns, stainless windshield and rear window trim, chrome vent window frames, chrome hub caps, chrome front bumper, stainless paint divider molding.

• Cheyenne: Everything in a Custom Deluxe and/or; carpet, headliner, chrome pedal trim, headliner, cargo light, wood grain/chrome lower side moldings, tail moldings without a lower tailgate trim, wood grain/chrome tailgate band, deluxe side marker lenses. Different seat covers then Custom Deluxe?

• Cheyenne Super: Everything in a Cheyenne and/or; fiber insulation panel between the fenders and doors, upper side moldings, wood grain/chrome instrument panel, wood grain panel with a SUPER emblem for the glove box lid. Perhaps a wood grain ash tray?

Note: A/C optioned trucks had tinted glass.

EDIT: Changes are captured by post #5.

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

Looks pretty good. Believe 71 had vinyl door panels not sure how wood grain could be implemented on them? Wood grain on Cheyenne super molded door panels standard in 72 I believe. Maybe an option on Cheyenne? Believe the scroll pattern panel is standard on deluxe and Cheyenne in 72. My 72 custom deluxe has the scroll pattern.

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

I think all '71s had the black and chrome dash bezel. Custom deluxe had painted hubcaps and bumper standard I believe. Most had the chrome option. They also had the vinyl scroll with woodgrain door panels. Yes, Cheyenne had different seat covering, the full vinyl scroll pattern. no woodgrain ashtray on Cheyenne Super. They did have a chrome tailgate handle

The handle itself was chrome? My 72 super's handle was painted, though it could have been a replacement.

After looking at my SPID, I believe you're right, the front bumper and hubcaps on a Custom Deluxe were painted as standard. Strikes me odd considering standard included "bright" front, rear and vent glass.

Here's my 71 Custom Deluxe panel, I'm pretty sure the Cheyenne had the same.

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

Here's an updated list, thanks for your input. Much of this is per GMs 1971 catalog and such. Blue font means not positive. Post 11 in this link is great stuff, compliments SSTim. The 1971 is shown below:http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=642907

With different nameplate badges on the fenders, the 1971 Chevrolet truck trim levels are equipped with:

• Custom (Z60): Vinyl interior, metal door panels, black floor mat, black/chrome instrument panel, painted hub caps, painted front bumper, steel bed floor, front disc brakes, chrome side mirrors. Optioned lower side moldings would be black/chrome. Optioned tail moldings generally include a lower tailgate molding.

• Custom Deluxe (Z62): Everything in a Custom and/or; cloth & vinyl with full depth seat, color keyed floor mat, special insulation, deluxe lighter and knobs, chrome dome light, door jam switches, wood grain door panels, dual horns, stainless windshield and rear window trim, chrome vent window frames.

• Cheyenne (Z84): Everything in a Custom Deluxe and/or; deluxe all vinyl seat, carpet, headliner, chrome pedal trim, headliner, cargo light, wood grain/chrome lower side moldings, tail moldings, generally without a lower tailgate molding, wood grain/chrome CHEVROLET tailgate band, deluxe side marker lenses, chrome front bumper. Option for bucket seats, which were not available in a Custom or Custom Deluxe.

• *Cheyenne Super (YE9): Everything in a Cheyenne and/or; fiber insulation panel between the fenders and doors, upper side moldings, wood grain/chrome instrument panel, wood grain panel with a SUPER emblem for the glove box lid, stainless tailgate handle. The SPIDS in some 1971 Cheyenne Supers show “Z84 – CHEYENNE SUPER EQUIPMENT”.

Notes: Wooden bed floors were standard in Longhorns. Stainless fuel caps were installed with lower side moldings, and probably rear moldings as well. Longhorns and Custom Campers could be optioned with any trim level, though perhaps not Custom Z60.

I believe the 71 super had a stainless steel tailgate handle and the 72 it was a stainless cover. My 71 super it's definitely stainless steel.

Great, I added that to post 5. Edit: Had to correct it too, somehow ended up with Cheyenne

I'm not showing much for Longhorn. Don't know much about them beyond a wooden bed. Other than the bed, seems they were basically Custom or at least had SPID call outs like option Z62 (Custom Deluxe) and above.

I wonder if the paint dividers were only installed where the truck called for bright glass (aka window bling)?

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

The paint divider, meaning trim on back of cab? That came with standard 2-tone (white top) and deluxe 2-tone (white on side between trim & white top).

The Longhorn could be had in any trim level. The option had nothing to do with trim.

The woodgrain w/scroll vinyl door panels came in everything but Custom

Sounds right to me. How about a camper special, would those option with any trim level as well?

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

Yes. The Custom Camper nameplate replaced the fender badge no matter what trim level. I had a '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper. So since there is no glovebox emblem it didn't say Cheyenne anywhere, not even the SIP! That's because it said CST on many Cheyenne SPIDs in '71

Short on Custom Camper and Longhorn
That would be interesting, as in 1972 tinted glass was still another option even with A/C. I have seen a couple A/C cabs even on Cheyenne Supers where they did not have tinted glass...even more interesting when they were Atlanta plant trucks and the truck had spent its life in the south!

Re: 1971 Chevrolet Truck Trim Levels

^^^ That's a new one on me. I have never known of an A/C truck that did not have Soft Ray windows. Soft Ray could be an option in a non-A/C truck. But on A/C trucks the Soft Ray should also show as an option

Thank you 71CHEVYSHORTBED402 for the pic. Have never seen the vinyl door panels with wood grain insert. @ special-k In 72 I guess the wood grain on custom deluxe panels was eliminated as mine just has the scroll.

Yeah, on the '72 Cheyenne/Sierra and Cheyenne Super/Sierra Grande, which have woodgrain door panels, the scroll lurks beneath. On my Sierra I removed the woodgrain from the doors, since those are the only woodgrain in the interior. I think it looks better to have the door panels and seat to match. The woodgrain is out of place in the Z84s
