Re: tax time
I have used a CPA for years. It can make a big difference on what you get back or pay.

Re: tax time
I've done ours for longer than I care to think about, long before there was software (or computers, for that matter). After TurboTax came out, I used it for several years before switching to Tax Act a few years or so back. For me, it's easier to search for forms and topics then TurboTax.
Maybe I'm wrong, but unless you have a very complex return (and are liable to miss things), I don't know how a CPA will create more money for you. If you enter all the info you are supposed to, the program does the math and there you are. That said, even with the software, you need to do some digging and searching to make sure you haven't missed something.

Re: tax time
I have used taxact for quite a few years as well as my dad and my brother. its a great program. checks you for errors and makes sure you arent gonna get audited. I can say my dad has done some extremely creative tax returns through taxact and hasnt ever had an issue.

Re: tax time
All of my family takes there taxes to a guy that does audits for the federal goverment(or something like that), my family members each own there little businesses and have nothing but great luck with the tax guy because he tells us what loop holes we can do to make it so we dont have to pay any in

Jitterguy, you need to rethink your paycheck deductions. Ideally, you want to break even, no point in having the gov hold your money for 12 months int free, only to get back a portion of it the following year. Myself, I have always done my own, I use Turbotax.

Re: tax time
My wifey is a bookeeper and she gets taxes ready for the CPA's so she does ours and lets the CPA stamp it.
