Sound System on a Budget

I am thinking of upgrading the sound system in my 89 Cheyenne, but need to do it on a budget. The head unit is fine and doesnt need to be changed. I want to keep the stock size speakers and was thinking of putting a bass tube behind the seat. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of a brand that has good sound quality but at a good price.

Re: Sound System on a Budget

I would do a single 10 in a box and a 4 channel amp to run everything. I can get deals on gear. I have been in the business since 1986.

Alright, I would have to do a shallow sub box behind the seat because i dont have alot of room. What brand of sub, amp, and speakers would you recomend?

sub jl audio..
you said budget.. but my budget might not be yours..
what you looking at money wise as the budget..
also what type music you like??
alot of reg cab trucks sound great with 2) 8" subs.. in small wedge type boxes.
the music you like plays big. in the sub choice(size)
I'm a 70's child so alot of my music I like (mid 70's to early 90's) is dual bass drum.. and a single sub just doesn't sound right in mono..
new music the mixers wouldn't know channel seperation if it hit them..
post the type music you play the most will be a big help..
I play everything, but love some more than others.. so they get played more..
with the amps.. remember the #1 killer of speakers is distortion..
an amp rated a 1hz isn't gonna mean much when running a sub..
my next box will be dual 8"
I've done the dual 10's and 12"s and even dual 15" always was overkill and had to almost turn the amp gain all the way off..

the speakers
dash is 4by6 if you have center vents
rear cab are 4by6
doors can take some 6.5"

Re: Sound System on a Budget

You wouldn't have to have a true shallow mount.(if I was gonna go true shallow mount I would use a kicker 10) Allot of the subs these days have magnet comers that serve no purpose. I had to take them off of some subs I put in the other day to get them in the box. As far as the single versus double sub thing. Almost everything below 100hz is mono anyway. Pm Me if you want to.

Re: Sound System on a Budget

Im going to college in the fall so my budget is small it would be around 300 but would go to around 400 if i had to. I mostly listen to modern country music, but will also listen to 70's-80's rock on occasion.

sure you can live without it, but once you have it you want to live without it.

most modern music has enough bass in it to know it is there. even a little 8" is better than nothing.

Re: Sound System on a Budget

If you get a 4-position switch from like radioshack or something, you can actually wire them all into the same one so that you use the same switch to change from both to front to back to off. Just an idea so that you don't have to put multiple switches in the dash. Btw, I expect credit if anybody ever asks where you got the idea
