I have a couple of different roll bars for early blazers/jimmys and I want to put one in my new jimmy. I know that neither one is factory, but which one is better?

I would just use the one you like best. Neither one would do much for you in a roll so it is more just for what look you want.

I'm sure we all wish we could afford and or build our own full cages connected to the frame...

However, are you suggesting stock they're purely cosmetic? Granted if a roll bar isnt installed with backing plates, you have a good chance of pulling the nuts right through god for bid you should roll... but if they're bolted in with backing plates "properly", you still don't think they will provide "much" ? They're just for looks? Sh!t, i should just sell mine (NOT) since it's as good as scrap and only weighing me down.... Why did they ever make them to begin with?

Is the first one a factory '73-'75 Blazer rollbar?

I have a factory '73-'75 Blazer rollbar that I want to install in my '71 so I'm looking for feedback.

I prefer the first one. The simpler the better. Although if done right both could look great. The first one is similar to mine.

How well does a roll bar perform if installed with a plate underneath?

I think the Smittybilt in the 3rd picture looks the best, just my personal opinion based on looks since that's what I use in mine.

Wouldn't do much other than possibly save a life. Seriously I have seen a Toyota truck roll over once and it had a chepo bolt together made in Mexico chrome plated bar just bolted to the floor that substantially saved the back of the cab where the kids head was and kept the cab from crushing totally.

Yes he should, and it would be an interesting read as well I'm sure, as most opinions are... the issue is, typed word comes across harsh at times and makes people not respond.

Wow, I just wanted to get you guy's opinion of the roll bars I had since I am not really up on what is sought after in blazer/jimmy aftermarket roll bars. Please don't get my thread locked.

I agree with Rokcrln as far as choose which you like best. Although both will help in the event of a roll over, The second one with the rear tubes mounted up higher will be of most benefit when needed (triangles are strong!). These bent braced tubes will carry the load of the truck in a roll over. Perhaps not if you slipped off a cliff face at 50 feet

A big help in a roll over. The loads required to punch 4 mounting plates through the blazer floor exceeds the weight of the truck. I have rolled autos and roll bars don't suck!
This is not a 14 point racing roll cage but your not running 300 mph either.
The key is to mount them correctly with grade 8 bolts.
Create greater safety, not a hazard.

Denny's right. Either bar will withstand a roll. While the first bar looks better and takes up less space, the second bar appears to have a better mount. I say appears because I can't see how either is mounted. Sheet metal doesn't do a very good job of taking point loads, but doubling and spreading out the attach points helps.
