Re: Senior Project Build

Yes the springs I ordered are only 1 inch drop, so that should bring the front up 2 inches and hopefully balance it out better

Lookin even better than yesterday...glad you are fixing the front, your truck didnt look right with that much rake. I'm really liking your truck. Now you need some chrome grille trim.

Re: Senior Project Build

Lucky,
Keep up the good work. You got me thinking about my senior project. I rebuilt a 300 hp 327 out of a '65 Impala SS. My dad wouldn't let me put that engine in anything, knowing that I would be racing and had me driving VW bugs. Had to sell it to fund college. Prolly saved my life! That was 30 years ago. Back to the present -
You are learning a lot of stuff the hard way (wiring, bearings, & hard to find good help!) These hard lessons will pay dividends from now on! Meanwhile you are building a cool ride! Good luck to you and holler if I can help.

Re: Senior Project Build

I pulled apart the front hubs/spindles and found destroyed bearings and a big mess.

Heres the outside race of the outer bearing. It got so hot it turned blue.

That was once a bearing.

Heres what the spindle looks like. The big ring on the end is part of the inside race, melted onto the spindle

Time to get dirty.....again

Hey thanks man! Yes this is a great learning experience, and Im really enjoying it, no matter how much work it is. That sounds like a nice motor, I would love a 300- horse 327 inbetween my fenders

Re: Senior Project Build

Hey thanks. I think I tightened it down too tight, I was taking a test drive back from the exhaust shop, and suddenly it veered crazy into the other lane and there was smoke pouring from the front. Everything burned up

Re: Senior Project Build

Some emery cloth should fix that spindle right up..........NOT. When I saw the title of this post I thought it was an old fart build but it turned out to be a young whiper snapper build.
Oh and you might be able to reuse those bearings, just squirt alittle WD40 on them and they will be good to go
Looks like you got a good grasp of all the mechanicals. Not many kids your age even care about learning these days. Have fun.

Looking good man, keep at it. Things going wrong are just little hiccups, and it all pans out in the end. Haha, know all about that...

Sweet looking truck, and sounds pretty sick too. You're gonna make alot of people jealous when you roll up in that truck.

Good luck.

The old springs are still in brand new condition, so I am going to return them to Performance Online, where I got them.

Good call... Did you have problems with tire clearance with the 3" drop? Also, where did you get those pipes? I am trying to find tubes to get my exhaust past my cab (now that's custom) lol.
