tilly to the rescue

hi fellas, we're back up from page 5...

tilly has progressed pretty well this last month. got a bunch of wiring done and brake and fuel lines done. attached more of the under hood goodies, got most of the dash finished... but the big thing was the utility bed got painted. that thing is huge. by the time it got 3 coats of single stage, wet sanded and then 3 more coats, inside the cabinets and inside the bed, it took a full gallon of paint. i still need to paint the hood and tailgate but the painting phase is nearly done. whew...

now comes final assembly and the fire-it-up phase. soooo want this beast finished and out of here.

sorry about the poor pics. i don't have the touch Mark does on photographing a black vehicle. but once the new camera and i become more familiar with each other, things should improve.

our shepherd pup Gus is 13 weeks old now and 35 pounds. his feet are very big and his ears haven't come up straight yet but he's a cutie. his dad was 140 lbs. and his mom was 110. so we're expecting a good size dog in a year or two.

You do realize that Gus is going to grow into those paws! I have never seen a black utility truck before. The whole truck is incredibly stunning! Can’t wait to see it finished. What great progress. The dash also looks fantastic. Very detailed, stock looking with a hot rod flavor.

I saw an earlier post in another thread where you have Holley Pro Injection (or whatever it’s called) on the dually. Do you still like it? Has it been reliable? Any disappointments or special features?

I’ve been looking at all the brands of throttle body injection and they all seem very similar, depending on what features the owner wants. I’ve been looking at the MSD Atomic version because it seems the easiest, but not sure I drive the truck enough to justify the investment. Any input greatly appreciated.

thanks guys... starting to see the finish line on the tilly truck.
and that Gus has made a soft spot in this old guys heart. so smart and alert, what a great watch dog he will make. my wife Kim has been won over too and she is usually a cat person.

some of you knew but others might not have heard yet but Kim and i have moved our residence to a house that we own uptown. cool old house and we're dedicating some time to fixing it up. we are keeping the station and the truck stuff and I will continue to work there as usual but after 14 years of living in a noisy, smelly old gas station... Kim wanted a house. Can't blame her, air tools blatting out at 6 in the morning is no way to wake up.

so this move in no way changes the October Cruise-in and there is even more space for overnight guests so... if you can... take a break from your world and come hang out in ours... if you're on this forum, you're the reason we have the party and we invite all with the same affliction, old-truckitis to join us.

I've been really happy with the Holley Pro-jection. It runs smooth, starts easy even in winter and has zero maintenance. I got the 2 barrel version without the O2 sensor which was their lowest system at the time. I do need to tune the computer for winter versus summer driving, slight adjustment in idle speed but its simple to do. Been running this system for about 12 years and had no problems. Back then is was about a grand and fairly easy to install, hardest thing was a return fuel line which I did by tapping an extra hole in the sender. In that same time frame I've put 2 modules in my Mallory Unilite distributor, go figure...

got an update on tilly, after falling back to page 6. but we're working on 4 trucks and a car at the same time right now so work time is a bit scattered as if thats an excuse. but heres tilly after a wash last evening...

What a spectacular presentation. The overall finish, details, chrome pieces, early hood, dash and interior are all in another league. I think this might be my favorite truck on this entire forum! Of course it doesn't hurt that its painted the "correct" color!
