Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

I don't know if this has been posted yet on here. I posted it on the 73-87 threads but they cover all C10 trucks figure I would post it here also.

I would have rather gone with these than the CPPs but oh well.

I love these things. OE/dropped iron spindles are heavy mofo's.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

Saw these at PRI, they looked awesome.
Just watch out they will only be available with the later ball joint configuration... 73-up. They didn't have all the details ironed out at that point but it was looking like 1 spindle would set you back what a set of cpp/ridetech spindles cost. But of course ther are also using vette hubs.

Re: Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

I'm really digging these but not sure I want to buy a 3rd set of spindles for a truck that appears will never be finished because I keep changing my mind or companies keep coming out with cooler stuff

Wish I knew these were at PRI! I even talked with them and asked about C10 brake options, they never mentioned this...

Any how, I spoke with Wilwood Tech last night, here's a copy of what I posted over at pro-touring...

I spoke with Wilwood Tech last night and they assured me that the hub assemblies will but much heavier than the Corvette hubs, as I questioned that also. They also said any variation from factory track width should be kept minimal, maybe .188 at most on the offset. And should work with aftermarket, replacement control arms. So us guys that have the Hotchkis for example should be able to upgrade with no issues. I was contemplating on going with CPP spindles, but had heard some remarks about the axle pins shifting under heavy load, as they are pressed in. So far, I'm highly interested in these ne Wilwood pieces.

Re: Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

Talked with our Wilwood rep about these, sounds like they did a lot of homework. The hubs are a bit stronger than generic vette. - Still not sure if you can use OE brakes or if you have to use Wilwood parts. We thought about this approach for our next run of WR spindles, and could not justify the cost-vs-performance angle. For us, it showed that the cost of a new IFS would go up appx $800, and no longer include brakes. We were spec'ing new F-body brakes as a starting point, but even OE brakes would add appx $1200, and aftermarket like Wilwood adds $2K. This all driving the cost of a new IFS up way past $4K, and closer to $5K. For an update, if you are staying with the OE crossmember and geometry, these new Wilwood units can be added at any time, and may seem more reasonable cost. And, if you were planning a brake upgrade anyway, that cost is about equal.
Whats nice here is to see a company step up the technology and help move more of these old trucks into the 21rst century.

Re: Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

I've been checking Wilwood's website regularly and they still don't even have the part numbers in the system or a listing for them on the ProSpindles tab of the site. Maybe a phone call to them is in order.

Re: Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

Spoke with a Wilwood rep at Goodguys Pleasanton.
He couldn't say for sure but was thinking maybe around SEMA. He indicated that the steering arms were the last piece to the puzzle.

Re: Wilwood C10 Drop Spindles

Looks like you HAVE to run 73-87 balljoints for these.
I assume outer tie rods also.
