i'm not saying that it is. it just looks alot like the 430 in my old lincoln. it seems that a lot of these cars did come with a 390. it just doesn't look like one to me. maybe it's all the old style accesories.

nope your wrong the 272-312 was a Y-block and had 2bolts thru the top of the valve covers to hold them on/ FE motors started with 352-390-406-427-428
easiest way for id is to take off the valve cover and look for# should be a 9didget # starting with the letter C

another thing to look at is the freezeplugs if they're the normal type of pushin ones it's probably a 390, if they are screwin with a hex on them for a socket it's a 427

That number only applies to the heads. There will be a similar number on the block. If it starts with C7, then it is not the original block, cause a C7 was first manu in 67. I'm guessing someone torched the original engine and pulled one out of a 67-68 Galaxie to replace it. If the block has a C2 or C3 casting number on it, it could be a 406, 410,427, 352 or 390. Look at the sides of the block, just above the oil pan. If it has 3or 4 bolts(can't remember which) going into the block horizontally, then it is a 4 bolt main 406 or 427. If so, it is worth BIG BUCKS!!!!! Anyway, it is a rare car which should turn you at least 2K with a good title.

I couldn't see a good side profile on that car. Old full size Fords are still my favorite cars. It looks like a 63 to me. Many similarities to the 63 Galaxie's. If that has the fast back roof then you would have the 63-1/2 model. Plenty of great parts in there even if someone didn't want to keep it complete. The biggest problem with restoring Merc's is finding the bright work. The chrome trim just isn't out there and when you do find it you will need to give up both arms, legs and your left nut to buy it.

looks to be pretty complete and straight to me. the brightwork can be polished or rechromed. I think the car is worth some money.

The S-55 is the highest level of trim and options for the Monterey series. The Marauder, a two door hardtop version of the Manterey, with fastback styling, was first released mid year in 1963.

There were 10615 Marauder made that year, with 2317 of them having the S-55 level.

The S-55 inlcuded S-55 insignia , special wheel covers, vinyl upholstery, front bucket seats with center console, front and rear armrests, and padded dash.

This is information from "standard catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975 by John Gunnell, Krause Publications"....
