Re: Vintage picture thread

Not sure what's going on there.

The hauler is definitely out of Flint Assembly (judging by the model mix).

I don't see anybody I know, so not GM execs. Maybe some kind of dealer convention (with their wives)? Or Flint Area Chamber of Commerce?

That's a cool picture...I've not seen that many Monte Carlos with fender skirts in one place...and one more thing. I want that transport found and brought to my place ASAP!!!

Re: Vintage picture thread

I think the same thoughts about cars that were old back then weren't really so old. And look at the age of what I drive today. I'm making my living out of a 25 year old Suburban today. When I started driving in '71 that would have been a '46. I started out with an old '56. And I completely rebuilt it... took it out of the woods on a family friend's farm. It was free for the taking.

Real nice Coupe. '40 Fords were a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I spied one down in a junk yard from the road cut up high on the hillside. I was all excited and told my dad I wanted to go look at it. I was building car models since I was 6. Dad had a warmed over '36 before I was born. My 8th birthday ('63) came up shortly after and to my joy Dad said he was taking me to check it out. It was a complete car sitting close to the office. I guess I was fantasizing about us buying it, and dad must have had the same thought. We were disappointed to see the junk yard owner had marked all over the windows "No Parts!", "Keep Off!", and "Not For Sale"

Also, one of my dad's friends was keeping a '40 Sedan at our place when I was 12-13 ('67/'68). It was a former drag car. It had 75 & 80 Drag-A-Way class winner decals on the rear quarter glass, and other speed equipment decals. It had a 4spd (probably Muncie), slicks, and tach on the column with a metalflake Steering wheel, no back seat or bumpers. I was out there banging gears every chance I got. Probably trashed that trans

Like the paint scheme, like the color, like the base model with no trim, like the large mirrors, like the roof lights, like the heavy duty 16" 2 piece wheels, like the painted hubcaps and even like the box on back!

Re: Vintage picture thread

When I first went to work at the local Chevy dealership right out of high school, I was doing detail work, and new car receiving inspection. I had a small lot to get those vehicles parked on, and being a skinny kid, I parked them as closely as possible, but I could still squeeze out. We didn't have lines to park between and we also parked some used cars on that same lot. I went in to work one morning and one of the salesmen (who had a respectable belly) bawled me out because he couldn't get into a car to pull it out for a demonstration ride. I was enough of a s*** to tell him he should eat less steak.

Re: Vintage picture thread

Just happened to notice this at a local museum today - posting here for lack of a better idea.

Looks like an oem pickup belt repurposed back in the day for use on a milk stool by a local dairy farmer.

It also looks identical to the seat belts in my 69 GTO.

Banks used this Panel for testing their 500hp SBC twin-turbo. They had it doing 13.2 sec/116mph 1/4 miles on pump gas with 3.73s.

Holy cow, 116 mph in the 1/4?! That’s a mid 11 second truck with traction!! AND that thing probably weighs at least 4500 pounds! That’s one impressive running truck for the time....

5,200#. I found that article, and now can't of course. It didn't mention the year but I know it was a while ago. I'll guess it was late '70s-early '80s.

I found it:

I pulled these from a Facebook Post and have no idea of the details. All I know is they did a super job attaching the trucks to the rail cars.

Pam back in the day. Notice the how much rust is already growing above the window. This is likely Jungle Jim's C30 tow rig. (A 69 or 70 I believe)

Another great vintage shot of a C10/20 to bump to the the thread to the top. Hopefully no one is offended by a couple of foreign cars being in the photo.
