Still some of the same logic applies.
272Km from Saskatoon, SK, Canada to the first charging station at Swift current.
He stated he has about a 280km range in the cold.
I would never even consider running the range that close in -45C or -49F.
it's not saskatoon.
that pic was taken at the supercharger in Vegreville Alberta.
bohaichuk is canada's version of steve bannon. he hates government, electric cars and non-christians.
anybody can hate anything, take what he says with a grain of salt...
also call bs on charging stations. BC alone has over 3800 public chargers and thousands more in home chargers. BC has 1400 gas stations. alberta has 255 public chargers. they hate electrics cause it's whole economy depends on oil.
facts matter

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

This guy got ~176 km (109mi) from his fully charged Tesla model 3 traveling from Winnipeg at temps close to -30. So if you say let's go to Brandon and make it there, how long will you be parked before the battery was returned to capacity at a similar temperature? Imagine doing that with young kids in the car. Pass

Note: he was traveling at night time so all the car's lights were using power too. There is always the possibility of coming upon an accident and being held up for hours while running the heat to stay warm. He was brave, or had a support vehicle behind him.

Fact: At -30 I'm not leaving my house until it warms up enough for me to pack up and move somewhere warm.

Perhaps it is if your travel is constrained by charging infrastructure? It looks like Edmonton had a low that day of -49.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

MikeB, Yes an EV is a very different animal and I am not sure about owning one in areas of extreme cold, or limited sunlight. If you have solar power, then things get really easy. I live in a area of So Cal where electricity can cost close to 90 cents a kW during peak periods. The state and feds provided very generous rebates making my system very low cost. I generate enough power to charge my car and power my home. Simple to drive in the garage and plug in the car. No fuel cost for me to drive the car as my annual true up with the power company is less than 200 kw in the lower tiers. I actually have credits in the 90 cent tier.
Compare that to my Trailblazer SS that I drove 168K miles. Required premium fuel and got 12.8 miles to the gallon lifetime. That was 13,125 gallons. In California, premium is $5. It cost me twice what I paid for the Trailblazer new off the showroom floor to drive that 168K miles. Yes there are extra panels in my solar system to generate the power needed for the car. Cost is 2 to 3k all in for those extra panels. So the payback to power the car is quick and the rest is free miles. I take the truck or plug in hybrid car for the really long trips.

Perfect scenario for an EV. In your shoes I would buy one too.

I could probably benefit from one myself honestly, but I need my 2012 crew cab to take kids to school and haul trucks. Buying a second car of any price and cost doesn’t pay for itself. My commute is 3 miles so 12mpg is hard to recover buy spending $40k+ on an EV haha.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

I saw in another vid the initial charging time is spent "conditioning the battery" to accept a charge. Guess that means warming it up first?

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

Point:

I’m going to gloat a bit since today was an excellent scenario for an electric vehicle:

Outside temp was 9 degrees F.

Temp inside the garage is 35 degrees F.

Car plugged in overnight; I was able to “remote start” the car in the garage to preheat the cabin, get the seat heaters and steering wheel heat going using current from the wall rather than the propulsion system.

Commute was 25 miles, which I did with 10 electric miles of range left over. Took about an hour to drive that because of the roads and weather conditions.

Parked by the front door of the building in an EV spot.

Car is plugged in and charging; I will remote start it before heading out.

I will return home at the end of my day using my employer’s electrons.

Much more pleasant that driving my cold diesel pickup which sits out overnight.

I didn't need to use those 2 hundredths of a gallon of gasoline. My wife will probably give me a stern lecture for that.

This is what progress looks like a solar field that used to be a beautiful natural field now it fenced in and they kill the growth all summer . Probably 70-80 rows of panels . The picture is what the field looked like before

I took the snow covered picture today doubt much electricity is being made

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them

I must be missing something here,I lived on a mountain top in New Hampshire with no trees because I was above the tree line and had a solar company come up to check it out and give me a cost ,he came back stating all i needed was 3 panels and the cost was 75 thousand dollars and it was possible to get a rebate back from the government of 30 thousand,I told him I don’t do maybes either i do or I don’t, so I didn’t, now how are you getting them for 3 thousand

you can check every supercharger station in western Canada, it's Vegreville, belive me.
the last couple days BC had to supply electricity to alberta (and Washington) cause they have not upgraded their grid. now you have albertans saying it's all the fault of the ev's registered there....ya right....

The US Government has for a long time given a 30% tax credit for installed solar. Some states and local area are giving additional incentives for solar.

6 years ago I watched my neighbor install a 24 panels 8Kw solar system and the cost was $32k. It has provided over 7-Megawats of energy per year or 7000kw. That happens to be $560 dollars per year of electricity at our low rate of .08Cents per Kw-h. Or, That is $3360 total saving over six years.
System cost $32k
Fed Rebate $9700
6 year Elect saving $3360
That means $18,940 would remains to pay off the system after 6 years of service with out incentives.

An additional $16K was available in incentives.
Panels and inverters had to be built in the USA.
One more year and every additional Kw produced is free power.
Panels are warranted for 25 years.
Real numbers from a real system installed 6 years ago.
It has only gotten less expensive as the panels and inverters cost less.
At this time the federal tax credit is available to anyone the incentives vary by location. Systems and installation is not taxed.

Government also subsided Big oil and Farming etc.
