Addition to my hoard 2002 silverado

Today I bought a 2002 Silverado. Kinda ruff. has rust at rear cab corners and dents in the bed. 4.8 Vortec engine runs good has a oil leak. 4 wheel drive that all works. Pack rats have chewed some wires and gas gage and fuel gage don't work. air cond works. never been in a collision has a good title. owner was a chain smoker and inside the cab is covered in that cigarette tar. However for $500 I thought It is a good buy?

Still a good buy,it is getting harder to find trucks that haven't been beat to death, about the smell, very hard to get rid of cig smell, good scrubing and some air freshners.I bought a 2006 2500HD 4 wd off a friend,he bought it new,him and his wife owned a horse farm, and used the truck to haul horses,it smelled like horse and hay,I tried to clean it and after 4 years on my ownership it stilled had some horsey smell to it,lol.

Sounds like good deal, but looks like truck is at least an 2003 front end. 02 was the last year before they went to that look. Nice looking truck for the price!

Re: Addition to my hoard 2002 silverado

Ive left the windows down im not a smoker. I thing Im gonna pull the bucket seats and install a bench seat. and give it a good scrubbing with simple green. I would rather smell horse than tobacco tar and 500 pound fat guy smell. Eny road I have plenty of time to get it presentable.

Title says 2002. It might have been in a deer collision and been changed. Lots of deer here.

Re: Addition to my hoard 2002 silverado

230,000 miles. Firewood season is almost here. I think I will insure it and use it to haul firewood and use when feeding cattle this season. By spring it will not owe me anything. We have a 2005 3/4 ton with a 6.0 and Allison 4 speed 4 wheel drive. Its a reallly nice truck. Too nice to beat it up driving in the woods and drive when they salt the roads. and the 6.0 uses a lot of fuel. I think the 4.8 would be easier on fuel. and the 06 is a extended cab and the bed aint big enough to haul a good load. I can get two large round bales in a long bed Pk and only one in the extended cab. Our farm is down a gravel road. It stays muddy in the winter. our mud has acid in it and will rust vehicles pretty bad.

The ONLY thing that will get rid of cigarette stench (and any foul smell for that matter) is an ozone generator, otherwise you are just masking the smell.

Ozone won't even get rid of it. I've tried that.
Plastic and cloth absorb the tar and other byproducts of smoke. The best you can hope for is to mask it.
If you pull the entire interior down to the cab shell, scrub the metal with detergent & copious amounts of water, and then install a replacement interior including wiring from a non-smoker truck you can get rid of the smell.

I have had good luck (Mostly with carpet/cloth seats) using copious amounts of baking soda shaken thru the car and let set for a day or so. It has removed the aroma of leaving shrimp pealing in the car and it has done a darn good job on wsmoker smell also.

Re: Addition to my hoard 2002 silverado

Worth a try with the next smoker flip I do.
Ozone does cut the smell down remarkably well but it's still lingering around the edges and when it gets hot it comes out with a vengeance.

I'm not the guy that says it hasn't been smoked in when it obviously has been. No need to anger possible buyers. If they ask and the answer is YES then I tell them. People remember when you're actually honest with them.
