engine bay makeover?

ok soo i got the motor out,headers out etc and that all being painted/new rebuilt motor.while its out,why not do the engine bay and all that good stuff,right?
i have simple green,oven cleaner,JB degreaser and a high pressure nozzle on a hose haha.

after i get this all cleaned up,and all the stuff on the fenderwells out(smog etc) what should i paint this with,to look good and last?i want it some form of black.

i was told that undercoating of some sort would work?

i want something that wont scratch SO easy and will be easy to wash off.

yes im keeping in mind that it IS indeed an engine bay.haha


any help/tips/advice on this tpic would be great.
i found some other threads kinda similar to this,but didnt exactly have what i was wondering

dont use undercoating,most is a tarlike substance doesnt relly dry and is messy with uneven surface texture

if your on a limited budget best bang for the buck i've found is rustoleum enamel from home depot either in spray or quarts is a pretty good quality paint available in alot of color and textures at reasonable prices

I like to use cheap flat black paint. It cleans easy, looks good, hides flaws, and is very easy to touch up. I probably wouldn't do that for a show truck though haha. Just my 2 cents.

what flat black paint do you mean?
high heat engine paint?

and this is just to make a big old kinda rough lifted up 4x4 look like a take care of it,and look clean as im putting a beautiful crate motor in it lol.

Nope, I just go to kragens and buy the cheapest flat black paint in a spray can they have. As long as the sun doesn't fade it out it lasts quite a while. Check out my thread, and see mine. After putting my wrenches on the fenders during the motor install I just touch up any spots that need it. Never even had a problem with overspray, it dries so fast.

Once you have everything cleaned properly, spend some time with a scotchbrite pad scuffing the surfaces down. DO NOT use flat black paint as it is very prone to turn chalky, show finger prints, stain from oil spills, etc.

I suggest "satin" black. It has a slight sheen to it that is not as porous as flat black. It will give a fresh clean look that look that will endure well. Take your time and mask everything that you don't want painted. For those hard to mask parts, you can use aluminum foil to wrap it with.

This is what a combo of satin and gloss paint looks like.

what kinda motor is that?looks pretty dam killer man.
i was thinkin that i could do like a high heat engine black and then do a few coats of high heat engine clear?
ive done that on some of my dirtbikes fenders(old yamaha metal fendered dirtbike) and worked great,wont scratch for $h*t

Wanna give some tips for this engine bay? What about paint to use on master cylinder,brake booster,heater box etc please. Brandon

i used krylon satin black on black brackets booster etc with krylon brown primer..

wire brush wash soap water dry in sun wipe with lauqer thinner/mineral spirits paint

I used bedliner on frame

krylon like above on inner fenders

caliper paint on MC waterpump (matches alum. intake perfect)

be sure to disassemble MC then prep paint cook in oven like directed...supposed to make it brake fluid proof, i didnt do this and it was great to fluid got on it

oh i armor alled all the plastic looms

thanks! I ran my heaterbox lines from the other port on waterpump, i suggest you to do the same (cleaner look)

Not trying to hijack a thread,but how did you guys with edelbrock carbs route your gas lines?...

Lost me on the heater hose looks like you don't even have it ran to heater core. The fuel line ? is good to ask cause I have a Edelbrock carb also.
