Gas Pedal on Floor Studs

Hello, I have a new pedal but it will not push on or stay on the studs. I pulled the studs out and pushed them in on the workbench where I can see what it is doing. I pushed the studs into the pedal and in about 30 seconds it pushes the stud out on its own. It seem like the socket in the rubber pedal is not big enough.
Was wondering if there is a trick or a good brand of after market deluxe gas pedal that mount to the floor studs? I'm sure there is already a tread on this but I did not find anything. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Gas Pedal on Floor Studs

You can get new ball studs at most any auto parts. Just sounds like the stud is worn out. I had the same issue on one of my older trucks and the new studs solved the issue.

I would lightly sand the ball studs on the top so it can press into the pedal a little deeper and maybe that will get you over the hump of the ball.

Wild guess here. Could you maybe drill a very small hole into each socket, and let trapped air out? Maybe the socket and ball stud are both very tight.

Try put a small washer under the stud to raise it.
Could be the pedal is hitting on the floor?

Re: Gas Pedal on Floor Studs

I had this problem when I had a floormat down. I had to cut it back to let the pedal sit properly. I ended up going to the throttle cable style and never looked back.

'New' meaning aftermarket?

The answers provided all sound good & worth trying but it's possible you'll need to get creative by finding a ball stud the fits the pedal 'better' (for the opening in the pedal).

Re: Gas Pedal on Floor Studs

I got tired of the OEM pedal popping out. It would then fall under the metal bail that was connected to the throttle rod. For a few years, I just used the bail as the accelerator. On long trips my foot would cramp, holding on to this one point. For a while stiff climbing boots were the answer, but I still got cramps. New accelerator pedals I tried, but they popped out, too.
Finally, when the truck was ''down,'' rebuilding the engine, I changed out to a cable throttle system. Works great now.

Re: Gas Pedal on Floor Studs

Thanks for all the replies. The studs and pedal are aftermarket. I ended up heating up an old stud I had with a torch in a vise and when it was red I pushed the pedal on it and left it on till the stud cooled down. I seems to work ok for now, did stink up the shop for a half a day. I just did a frame off and I wish I would have used or upgraded to the cable version but I like the way the older gas pedal looks. Again thanks for the suggestions.
