New Idea or old???
Hey all...I'm new here but found this site while looking for blazers for sale and was wondering ya'lls opinion on what I am thinking...First why I am thinking what I am.
I want a 4wd but rust is so much an issue with these and it seems to be in the 4wd b/c offroad dirt holds water to the spots and promotes it...I was thinking about looking for a 2wd in good shape and then a $500-$800 4wd parts truck (blazer or pickup) for the drive-train???? Since I can rebuild the drive train w/ less worry about rust? Ok to those out there that know more...what is the fesibility of this in; ..cost of my idea vs cost of good shape 4wd, ..or that my assumption that 2wd's are more likely to not have rust? Welcome from Canada. Here is a pic of my 2wd, as you can see rust has no preference over drivetrain. They all rust, most of the rust can be easily fixed with the exception of the windshield frame, it that is rusted you are screwed. If you want something with not much rust be prepared to pay at least $8000

$4,600 for my rust free blazer, what a find, local too! Now it's a bit over a year (to me), and $1000 - $1,500 later, it still wont be the way i want anytime soon do to lack of funds.

Welcome to the board from the Pacific Northwest.
I paid $4K for my '69. It has some rust in the driver's floor board, but that is just about it. My '72 is in primo condition and i paid considerably more than that. With Blazers, the values are reversed from the pickups. 2wd are worth a lot more because the are few and far between. You probably won't find much difference as far as rust goes between the 2wd and 4wd Blazers. If you are looking for a pickup, sure you can get a 2wd cheaper, but it will probably cost you just as much or more to switch the suspension and drivetrain over to 4wd as you would have spent on a decent 4wd.
